If you don't like the heavy football, get a Hitachi STYLE starter. Smaller, lighter, and can be had w/ gear reduction.

Seriously, how hard is it to change the starter

I was changing the starter about every 12 months due to heat soak problems. Then I put on a simple steel heat shield and did the Ford relay mod (although I only run the solenoid current through the Ford relay, not the starter motor current) and now the same cheap reman starter has been working perfectly for years.

That doesn't really make sence to me...arn't you relaying a relay? What good does that do? I would say the reason you arn't having anymore problems is the heat shield...

The factory relay is only used to spit the bendix into the ring gear teeth, the starter motor is powered through the new relay instead. Basic idea is to get the relay out of the heat, as the power passes through a cold relay better than a hot one.
