i found a serpentine belt system of of a chevy 4.3 v-6.......will it work on my 83 305??? sais it is complete with a/c , alternator , and power steering for $150.00 , is that a good price and what else besides a reverse rotation water pump will i need? thanks for any help you can give me

Should work without any problems. Don't forget you'll also need the reverse rotation fan along with the pump.

What year 4.3 is it off of? The only reason I ask is that has an affect on which side the A/C is mounted on. On earlier versions of the 4.3 it was pretty common to have the A/C mounted on the passenger side, alt on the driver side. This can cause you to also need to have hoses made up to fit the new mounting position. My 92 4.3 has the A/C on the same side as my 350, however I still need new hoses when I go to the R134 and new condensor.

so either way , i'm going to need to have new a/c hoses made , a reverse fan and a reverse water pump ?? is $150.00 a good deal for the setup i mentioned earlier?? sorry if these are stupid questions for all of you guys who have experience with this but this will be my first change over from v-belt setup to a serp setup and i just need to know all of the essential details before i decide to go that route......and is it worth it to do the conversion?:confused::confused:

I personally like the serp set-up. Yes 150.00 for a complete set-up is a good price. Is it worth doing the conversion...well guess that depends on whether or not you like several belts that you have to adjust or just one belt that is self tensioned. The serp is definately less cluttered looking.

You may need the plug for the alternator, depending on what you currently have. If you have a 12SI then you are going to need the plug that goes into the alternator to work with the newer CS130 that it will most likely use.

You need the reverse rotation fan, reverse water pump, A/C hoses, and the electrical connector for the alternator.

As for price, I couldn't tell you, the setup I have to put on is from my 92 Astro that I was junking. I just kept everything because I believe that the simplicity of the serp setup is value added for me. My truck seems to have an issue with loosening the alternator, and that is a problem for me. Plus this newer setup will make it very easy to add the CS140 alternator I want. I also liked the fact that this setup, unlike the 88 Astro, is the aluminum brackets instead of the earlier steel horseshoe design.

i like the serpentine setup as well .....just trying to gather info on the swap and what will need to be modified and or replaced to convert it over

Your power steering setup should already be the o-ring style setup so that shouldn't be an issue, but you should check.

One other thing, remember if it is from an Astro that the later years all had hydro boost and remote resevoirs, these could have an effect. Although you should be able to mount up any pump to the bracket.

i'm not exactly sure what year 4.3 it is off of , i am going to call first thing in the morning to find out......... is there a certain year that would be better or easier for the conversion???

or do i just need to make sure the alt and a/c compressor are on the same side that mine are currently on ??? as far as the alt plug , i would just need to replace my existing one with one for that alt??

oh.by the way my alt is on the pass. side and my a/c is on the drivers side....if that helps ya'll any.....and will i have to have a/c hoses made or get them from the donor vehicle.......if i have to buy them what year and model should i buy them for

Not really a certain year I can give you, but you want to make sure the A/C and alt stay on the same side for ease of wiring. If you plan to use the A/C compressor, which sounds likely, you may also need the wiring for it. I say this because my newer compressor has a locking plug, while my current 80 compressor has a two prong slip on plug and they are not compatible.
