There is probably already a few threads on this and if so I apologize.
I recently dropped a 73(?) 350 ,010/020 block(probably irrelevant but...) in my 'burban replacing what I was told was an 89 crate 5.7. I swapped the entire serpentine setup-brackets/AC/PS/Water pump, etc into the 73.
All the bolts lined up,minus 2 on the passenger head, all pulleys in line ....
My overeager helper pulled the belt off the old motor before got a pic or even gawked at it for a few minutes so I'm not sure its on correctly now. I do have groove 2 groove and smooth 2 smooth at least.

So 2 things: 1:My power steering pump is chattering a little and staying a little wet. 2: My temp gauge is staying around 210,I have a 185 T-stat in it and no coolant, just water, but it seems to be a little hotter than I'm used to seeing.

Since I used the entire setup are my pumps turning in the right direction?
Or do I need to swap out to reverse flow water and ps pumps?
Sorry for the rambling post and thanks in advance

if you are using the water pump from the serpentine set up, then if should be fine (unless something was wrong with it to begin with)

the PS pumps turn clockwise, serpentine or V belt, but even so...you swapped them straight across.

you may have other things going on with that new engine

Yeah, you need to use the water pump from the engine you got the serpentine set up off of.

I took everything that had anything to do with the belts from the 89 and it went straight onto the 73 ,with the exception of 2 bolts where the old head had only 1 threaded hole, there was no prying,no shimming,no bending. I assumed that using the entire unit it would all spin the right way. The PS pump didnt whine or chatter before the motor swap. Not sure what temp the 73 ran at but my 89 ran around 190. No leaks in the cooling system either.

The motor is otherwise running smooth and strong outside a few oil leaks thanks to beat up pan and valve covers. Different oil pan and valve covers so I'm stuck with the abused 70s stuff for now.

you need 50/50 mix of coolent so it dont freeze and also the coolent helps absorb heat to water.

next is the pump did you just fire up and blead out fluid running or blead out before fired up ? if you dont blead the system before running it will suck air and whine a lot till its all out.

otherwise you got a pump starting to go bad.

The pump wasn't completely empty at all and I filled it back up before hooking everything else up to give it some time for gravity to help with bubbles, then before I fired up the motor I ran the wheel to the locks a few times. You're probably right though,it'll be a bit for the air to work out,I was just worried about some kind of inverse flow problem.

I won't waste a bit of coolant until I know the system is leak free, just wondered why a stock 350 is running just under boiling. Bugs,bugs,bugs......now to find the mystery leak. Used a 4 piece oil pan Felpro first then a 1 piece Felpro rubber...still leaking somewhere around the back, getting on the starter then flywheel....checked the rear main between pan gasket jobs and it was dry above the flange....grrrrrrr I hate leaks....

you didnt use the intake rubbers end seals did you ?

thay get tossed out and just use a 1/4-3/8 thick bead of black rtv for the ends of the intake.

or thay tend to pop out and leak out a lot.

"you didnt use the intake rubbers end seals did you ?"
Guilty by default. I have a tube and a half of Ultra Black and I'm going to recheck and reseal everything on the motor.

To anyone who posts and answer or comment on my posts-Thank You!
