I did a quick search with no luck. I did a serpentine swap on my 86 k5. The plug for the alt has 2 wires (that's whats in the harness). I swapped the acc's out of a 92 pickup & the plug for that alt has 1 wire. This is probably a dumb question but how do i make it work & what are the wires for?

I can't remember what exactly I did and I'm sure someone will chime in with the links to the info, I did some research on it and you will need to find out on your alternator which prong it the exciter wire, then rewire the plug to that wire that goes to your gauges.

I had an old wiring harness I borrowed the alt plug from and spliced things together with, worked fine. I thought there were markings on the alternators though that told what was what in some sort of code fashion and I seem to remember that there are a couple of different styles that have different terminal positions for that wire as well.

I installed mine in an '86 truck with gauges.

I can't tell ya what does what either, but I found this adapter to wire a one wire into the original (77) harness...

Sorry I cant stop staring at your big block :thumb: . . . . but anyway where did you find that adapter plug. That's exactly what i need!

I don't know, that's why I posted a pic...:doah:

try THIS , but maybe call them to be sure its what is needed...I really can't remember???

Yeah, see me personally, I couldn't see spending that kind of money on a connector piece, when a simple cut, splice and resolder would do and did just fine. Again the part was figuring out which terminal was the right one to attach to.

Wow. I was thinking $10 but $25 seems kinda steep. I think a cut & splice would be sufficient if I could figure out what to do with the wires.

This is a pretty common swap from what i hear. I'm just wondering what did everyone else do with the alt plugs when they swapped out for serpentine?
