How hard is it to change mainshafts? I have a 10 spline (that was in the truck, I know its good and tight) and a 32 spline (condition unknown, out of a running truck). I know that the one in the truck is good, but I don't want to bother swapping mainshafts if the 32 spline one is good too.

So is there any way to confirm that a 465 is good? Will popping the top cover tell me anything? It has about the same amount on "in-gear" play that my current one does (I've driven a couple 465's that were VERY loose).

Finally, with the 465/208 setup, is there a seal in the adapter or does fluid fill the adapter? I'd think there would be a seal either on the 465 (there are no holes for a seal retainer) or in the adapter like the old 465/205 stuff.

My 700r4/208 adapter was fully of fluid when I pulled the case off. I would imagine a 465 setup would be the same. Other than that, I'm not much help

I would check the bearings on the input and output of the 465. My last one I replaced the main shaft in wasn't all that bad, just have to make sure your press the bushings on in the right order and make sure you put your gears back on the right way.

As far as popping the top off and looking, just make sure the gears are in good shape, my 2nd gear used to pop out all the time because of this.

I don't run a 208 behind my 465 but I do have a 208 adapter behind it, there are seals on both the 465 and transfer case, therefore, no fluid in the adapter.
