tRusty,

Did you remove the hanger before cutting it. The picture looks like the rivets are still in place.
Next question, would I need do the cutting away from the gas tank if I'm using a plasma cutter?

Those are Bolts, you have to Grind, Chisel, Drill, or Blow the rivets out before You can Remove the Hanger. /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif

Yup, removing the hanger was soooooo much fun! /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif On the other hand dropping the fuel tank was a piece of cake...

yeah, when i did mine i was dreading dropping the tank. but that was a breeze. those riviets are a major PIA!

tRustyK5s looks pretty good. I've seen the ones with a cut out bottom break out, but that extra gusseting on top should take care of it. I saw one where the whole top was closed in for the most strength.

The pic's in this post are the best 'shackle pic's' I have...

I didn't remove the hangar when I did my flip. I put about three heavy, soaking wet towels around the gas tank and went to work with a torch for the rough cut. Finished up the holes with a die grinder. Surely would have been easier with the hangar out, but it only took about a half hour each side to get them completed.

I only removed them because they were getting moved back 2 1/2" anyways. We did the homebrew flip on my bud's truck with the hangers still on the truck. He retained the stock 52" springs though.
