shackle flip

well the truck already has a 6" lift... obviously 6" springs in the front... but has the block in the rear... I guess i'll have to look around... if i'm going to get a shackle kit i might as well go for the 6" and eliminate any block all together

what i am doing and not spending 180 bucks is if you get another set of rear spring front hangers. you can bolt them up in the place of the rear spring hangers and you have your shackle flip.
 
If you're wanting 6" of lift then run a 4" shackle flip along with a 2" lift spring. This combo will keep a friendly ride quality but allow a good amount of flex. I would not run a block at all because of the potential axle wrap that they are known for.

You could also run a 4" shackle flip and a zero rate for another inch of lift if you're not dead set on getting 6" of lift.
 
this is someone elses but its what im talking about and if you want 6 inches out of it then just get longer rear shackle. i will never run blocks again.

I see what you mean now, doesn't look like a bad idear!

4x4high, i am pretty stuck on a 6" cuz the truck alredy has a 6"... and i don't want to mess with the front end...just make the rear a little better.. the 4" shackle and 2" spring sounds like a good idea... but then i'm paying twice as much too.
 
I don't know of anyone that makes a shackle flip that's more than 4". This is why you will have to either run a 2" block or a 2" spring in addition to the shackle flip. Someone correct me if i'm wrong.
 
The problem with using a shackle for lift is that you'll need a shackle twice as long as the lift you want to achieve with it. For instance, if you want 2" lift you would need a 4" longer shackle and that's not feasible as the shackle angle will be too great.
 
flip it with an add a leaf and a zero rate. you should use a zero rate anways to put your rear tires back in the center. no blocks and 6 inches with a four inch flip.
 
That's basically what I did. I installed the DIY flip, 7" cross tied shackles, and ORD Zero Rates. Gave me a little over six inches of total lift while still maintaining the ride of hte stock springs.
 
I know this is a fairly old thread, but I'm still trying to figure out which way to go... this is what I've come up with between DIY4X and ORD. I need at least 6" of lift to match the front.. and would be alright with 7". Let me know if the following is accurate:

Off Road Design products
Shackle Flip $189 4" of lift
6" Shackle $125 1" of lift
Zero Rate AAL $40 1" of lift
Total $354 6"

DIY4X products
Shackle Flip $170 ?4" of lift
6" Shackle $40 1" of lift
ORD Zero Rate AAL $40 1" of lift
Total $250 6"

The reason for the ? on the DIY4X shackle flip is because they don't say how much lift just the flip gives you, so i'm assuming 4 because that's what ORD's gives you. But as you can see, basically the same set up is $100 less from DIY4X. The major price difference being the 6" shackle. Is ORD's shackle really that much better?

 
Im in the same boat as GM 4wheelin. I have 6" blocks and a sag. I was thinking ORDs flip kit and a three inch block to gain smaller blocks and get rid of the sag at the same time. I just installed an ORD kit on a Tahoe and liked it. It was easy and looks good. But, DIY4X offers the 6" shackle. Seems like I could just do that with a zero rate and get about seven. Which, should get me where I want. Is this right? I like my ride so I dont want to go with a lift spring if I can help it.
 
no, the 6" shackle will only give you about an inch of lift when used with a shackle flip. You're only lifting the rear of the spring with the shackle.. with 4" shackle you get 2" lift, and 6 you get 3". But then take into effect that your stock shackle is already 4 inches, so a 6" only adds 2 more inches to you shackle length thus giving you 1" of lift..
 
Go with Kert's stuff, it does give you 4" and is quality stuff, great customer service too but then again ORD has great service too. Lots of people like Kerts because the shackles are easier to make in custom lengths to get the angle right
 
ORD's just looks beefier to me.. and won't DIY4X's shackles work on ORD's flip? If so i think that's what i'll do... ORD Flip, DIY4X shackle, then ORD zero rate. And I seem to like ORD's web page better, they explain everything a lot more in dept then the DIY4X website. I know that doesn't have a lot to do with the product.. but it makes their name stuff more appealing. But why are ORD's shackles so much??
