Shackle Flip?

well i got the answer i need to order my flip and such, and it wont be til spring that i put the engine/tranny/tcase in so i may have to shim it then and figure out my angles and everything haha so im not worried about that yet!

Or you can fab your own. :D you've been doing enough welding and it would be good welding practice.! Look around here in build threads. A few here have made there own and as soon as I can buy new u joints, Ill be copying an idea from a member here. I spent about 50 bux on the steal and its sitting in my garage waiting.

what are you refering to? shackle flip, driveshaft, shims? lol

haha yea i considered it. Im trying to get the whole k5 done by spring though and it would take time to fabricate a set. Some stuff ill make, but i gotta pick and choose or i would just make everything and it would never get done haha

Look around dude! There are some pretty simple shackle flips done. I like a set Blazenzuk made for his project Horton. Look for the Horton build. :waytogo:

eh, I'll buy shackle flips, plenty of other projects to do custom fab on imo...

Couple pics in the first four pages.

ryoken " eh, I'll buy shackle flips, plenty of other projects to do custom fab on imo..."

Not on a limited budget and not for a guy with limited welding experience.

Wage, got to a steel supply and look through the remnants pile. You should be able to come up with something. Stick to 1/4 - 3/8 and you should be fine. If your willing to wait a little. Ill send you exact measurements of mine when there done?

not for a guy with limited welding experience.

imo, that's a bad equation right there..

limited welding experience + fabbing a critical suspension component = not really smart imo..... learning to weld on non-death to flaming nuns-related fab jobs seems the better avenue..

fabbing a critical suspension component..

Its not a four link. Imo, some of theres parts arent as difficult to make as there are made out to be. In his build he seems to understand what hes doing and he doesnt seem to be building a hard core rock crawler thats gonna see tons of abuse. Not that the part doesnt need to be stout. But from what hes done so far, he seems to have a ton of aptitude.

it's still a component that can cause a serious accident at speed on the road if it fails... just like people who sit here and try to justify having full hydro on the street... I could care less about offroad and how it holds up there, I care about about sh*t failing on the highway and killing people...

I just think there are better projects for people to sharpen their welding skills on.. fab table, welding cart, body work, a x-member, etc..

Gotta agree with you, key suspension / chassis parts are not a good "learning" area :D.

Not to mention sometimes it's just better to spend a few dollars as opposed to hours of your time :waytogo:

that's my original reasoning.. I can earn way more money at work in that time that it would take to fab em...

and my point was not to offend anyone's abilities, more just the safety reminder...

While discussing plans for my derilect project 79, I said I planned to buy a DIY4X Shackle flip. I was told to "just make them". I have little welding experience, no welder, and it would not be worth my time to try. For $200, I can spend a few more hours drinking beer instead of struggling with something that most likely wont work the way I want anyways.

yes i agree with ryoken, while i feel i am grasping welding pretty fast and could make them myself easily. Im just not ready to have that much weight on my welds. Im sure it would hold up but id rather be more confident. Thanks for the compliments jess, i am slowly getting there, i work in a machine shop as an intern so i learn new stuff everyday!

okay guys im still confused, how much lift does a shackle flip get me? they say 4" now is that the shackle flip with the 4.5" shackle? or just the shackle flip, and with the shackles it makes it higher?

This is what im thinking, if i get 4" of lift from the shackle flip and that includes stock 4.5" shackles (i think) but i use 6" shackles instead. so that ends me up with about 5" of lift, and then with the ez inch, i end up with 6" total in the rear...does that sound right?

technically more like 5 3/4"... but that will also vary depending on how your shackle angle ends up..
