So i wanna replace the rear blocks in my k5, they are roughly 5". will a shackle flip with 6" shackles and zero rates be enough to replace the 5" block?

That will be good, I used all that minus the add a leaf to replace a 4in block and its exactly the same height. Keep in mind it will move the axle forward closer to the front a lil bit, so you way want to space it back with the add a leaf a bit.

unless you do it right the longer shackles will kill pinion angle and are only needed for more flex in off road use.

i would go flip and zero rate first and see how it looks.

and plan on tweeking the pinion angle also .

i had 5 leaf stock new springs / zero rate / ord 4" flip kit in my old 1/2 ton and 6" front springs come out just right.

More than likely he already has pinion shims cuz the blocks, I got lucky and just beat mine and spun them around backwards from their original position.

i have no shims right now, because the block that was in there was tapered. bit i can shim it as im putting it together if needed.

With the shackle flip on a K5 the pinion angle ends up about right for a C/V driveshaft. I don't know why you'd want to go higher than that. If you want to run a standard shaft you will have to shim it back down. You can use a "zero-rate" type block for the extra 1" or get some extra spring parts from the junkyard and cut them short. An overload is about 3/4" and regular leaves about 1/4". Bolt it all together with a single center bolt.

Note that shims can screw with the centerbolt and make them bend. You either need the shim counter-machined on the backside (surface parallel to the other side) or get a tapered washer with the same angle as your shim.

Yes, with no shims (on my Sub) the pinion would have been pointed into the floorboards, so i had to spin mine around, with the bigger part of the wedge pointed towards the front end now, and it worked like a charm to 65mph. It never goes faster than that so its all good for me. I have the 6in ORD shackle on mine. I now wish I would have bought the add a leaf and moved my axle back 1.5in, as it looks a little funny now, but Im already low in the front, and not quite sure if I can use an add a leaf in the front too with my crossover.

the flip in Mutt has mine actually a bit above a straight shot, cv angle.... no vibes, but, not right...

a 10 degree to bring it down is in the works...

Damn. I didnt really wanna have to shim mine when I do it. I was thinking "oh sweet I wont even have to take off the old ubolts at all to lift the rear"...

I never shimmed mine and i've taken it on like 4 road trips at 65-70 with no problems. I know a number of people that have been fine without doing so as well. :dunno: I suppose every rig is different though. I must have gotten lucky cause mine points right at the t-case.

that's not what you want in a non-cv shaft, you want reasonably equal angles..... doesn't guarantee it wont vibe, as I mentioned, mine doesn't, but that doesn't make it right...

Well in a "correct" situation if you have a standard drive shaft you want the angle on the tcase u joint to be the same as the angle of the pinion side. If you have a double cardigan joint out of the tcase, then you want the pinion pointed directly at the tcase. But i have seen many people have no problems with the angles not being equal.

Oh ok, shows how much I know:haha:. I figured that's what it was supposed to be and since it didn't vibrate. I'll keep quiet.

yeah, no, hey run it... as ya said, all trucks are different... but, as a principal, what i said applies...

tho mine doesn't vibe, it feels like it's borderline, and "wants" to vibe...

reminder to Ryoken.... do my u-joints.... :haha:
