for the 4L80 swap i thought of another rub.... how to tell what gear im in, which will be even more crucial with a full manual valvebody.

then id dawned on me, the 700R4 equipped trucks have a shift indicator with 1-2-D-OD-N-R-P, instead of the 1-2-D-N-R-P that i have. could i just pick up the shift indicator from a 700R4 equipped truck and have it work with the 4L80 with a little adjustment to the shift lever on the tranny?

Yes you can use a shift indicator from a 700R4 equiped truck. The adjust for that though is on the steering column, not the shift linkage to the tranny. If you pull the 4 screws from the plate directly under the steering column and then look at the right side of the column you will see the small clip that moves the indicator. The clip on the earlier rigs usually had a phillips screw holding it to the shift housing while the later rigs usually was only a clip.

warning: amateur at work here.

I know I'm bumping an old thread, couldn't quite find one that fits. I believe mine is just a clip, and I have absolutely no idea where to clip it to. my indicator came unclipped and is just hanging, when I shift I can't see a thing moving anywhere on the column or to the right of the indicator, so no clue on what I should be looking for here.

sorry and thanks!

aaaaaaand I found the exact question after 5 more pages of searching. pictures are no longer posted, but I think I've got it figured out.
