shifting from 2nd gear at a dead stop with sm465/np205

And when people say they have a 5 speed tranny, those knobs show 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 on them. There aren't any L, 1, 2, 3, 4 on any NV4500 tranny even though they have a low first gear, too.

I'm pretty sure I have seen l-1-2-3-o/d on a diesel powered k3500 with a Nv4500

I came close to getting a '82 K10 with a 6.2 and it had the A-833 4 speed Mopar style overdrive tranny behind it---only
one I ever saw like it since too...junkyard squashed it before I got back with the cash, after telling them to save it for a few minutes!...the knob on the shifter on that one read 1-2-3-OD.....it was the same tranny they used in Volare's and Dodge Vans,a lot of telephone company vans with slant sixes had them....I often wondered how those were as far as gear spacing..maybe the best they had??..

There was one of those at the local yard here. The trans/case assembly was gone pretty quick. I bet that was a good combo behind a 6.2

Forgive me. I've sinned.

The is no right/wrong answer here. Im just saying that this could go on for a long time over what's proper or best.

my point of contention has always been with the people that refer to it as a 3 spd WITH a granny gear... usually idiot ad's, etc on CL and such...

Iv always heard 3 with Low, reason explained to me by several tranny shops was, IN THEIR WORDS, that aint no damn 4 speed, 4speeds came in Chevelles, and they had no L on their knobs. lol, that being said I am fairly certain isnt that tranny non synchronized so you cant shift out of L above like 5mph, and if memory serves me that was their other reasoning. As 4speeds of the past you could shift in and out of 1st whenever you saw fit, just repeating what iv heard....

Since I caught your reply before it was deleted, smartphones lol, Il respond by simply sayin its their opinion, which they are entitled to, same as you are with the 4speed/"redneck" opinion. Me personally, I think if its non synco its a 3 with L, but that's just my view on it, personally iv thrown every one iv ever had to deal with away cuz I'm not a stick fan anyways.... But I respect those who die hard for em, more power to yas

It's easy to shift out of Low, it's shifting into Low while the truck is moving that is the trick.

My grandpa had one. Broke like 3 transmissions. After he cut off the hitch it worked great. would get 26 mpg on a regular basis.

yup, my dad special ordered an early 80's tan Volare with a six cylinder, that trans, floor shifter and bench seat.. :eek1: :doah:

thing never shifted right from day one... iirc, it did well mileage-wise, but was always a nightmare shifting.. getting in to reverse, etc..

we're also talking about a Pinto and Renault Alliance owner here too... :haha:
