Has anyone used a transport company recently to ship their truck? I'm looking into buying one from a member that lives in Colorado. I've been thinking about flying out and driving it back to Ohio but, if I can get it shipped for a little bit more I might just go that route. There are so many companies out there and I have received qoutes anywhere from $800 to $1500.

Can anyone here recommend any transport company that they have dealt with?

I'll try to get the name of the guy my friend always uses. Figure about $1/mile for shipping

I used a broker called Jays Auto Transport. http://www.jaysautotransport.com/

I was real happy with him and he found me a better rate if I was willing to wait longer.

He found a hauler who lives in Colorado and was coming this way. Only thing was I had to wait, which wasn't a problem with me.

It will cost less if it starts and runs under its own power

It's always cheaper when you're flexible on time.
And DAS isn't all bad, they are cheap so time is not their best attribute, but I never found anyone cheaper for where I had things shipped.

Iceman.

Ship right? Do you mainly try to stay on west coast?
Yeah, I just dropped all the states east of MT, WY, CO, NM line.
And next year, I won't even go to MT or NM.
It's just not worth it to me, when I can stay close to home and make more money and stay home more.:thumb:
I used to go 48 states, not anymore.

would it be cheaper for me to drive my truck back from NC to CA or to get it shipped? It gets really crappy gas mileage lol

I did a quick qoute online at DAS and the burb would need to be dropped of at there closest drop of which according to them is 238 miles from were the truck is.

Not sure if you ever get on the HAMB forum but there is a member there that is the one I was talking about. His screen name is "racinman". I'm still trying to locate his contact info

Yeah I bet you woud still be better off shipping it.
You are looking at roughly 3000 miles of driving, not to mention the driving time (44hours) and expesnes on the road, if you average 10 miles per gallon, you will need 300gallons at $3.7/gal
that is $1110. And that is not counting your cost to go to it to drive it back.

If it's not a lifted truck, you should be able to ship it for under $1000 and you would still be at work for 4 to 5 days making the money to cover that cost.

I drove across the country a lot and I can tell you, unless you are doing it once as a fun drive with a couple of friends, or making money like I was, it's a waste of time and money.

Well I'm in the military now, they do offer to ship your POV here but it cant have any parts on the inside. Ive got a huge stockade of parts waiting for me to put on it inside it. I think my only real option is to drive it and its gonna cost out the ass to do it.

In that case don't they reimburse you for driving it instead of shipping it?

I'm not really sure, I just got stationed here and its my first duty station, so I'm not really sure how al that will work. I will deff talk to S1 and my squad leader and see what they recommend. I didnt want someone else installing all my goodies on it b/c i love working on my truck. So I've been buying parts here and there and just stockpiling them in the back, so when I finally got the truck here it would be a massive thrash to get it all fixed up like I want it.

I used uship.com. Cost me $1100 to get my lifted 4" k5 from Jacksonville NC to amboy ca last summer. I had my 235/75 rollers on it at the time.
