Shock Absorber Comparison - Smoother Ride

I have been reading tons of threads regarding shocks as I have been seeking a smoother ride for my stock 1986 K5 Blazer. After having replaced the leaf springs, I went with lower cost KYB shocks and the ride was rough. After a year and a lot of research, I finally bit the bullet and went with a set of Bilstein 4600s. This made a huge difference in the ride quality. I didn’t think the brand of shocks would make a huge difference but I was wrong. It is tough to pay the higher cost but I am completely happy with my smoother K5. I hope this helps.

I went the same way. Same results. I will replace with same Bilstein.

With my past experience, I doubt that I will ever buy anything besides Bilstiens.
I have bought more than one set.
Rather than hating how my truck rides, I will pay the small amount more to buy better from Bilstien.

I started this same way then upgraded to ord custom springs with the bilsteins and that was an even bigger upgrade then went with king custom tuned shocks from accutune offroad and again cant believe the difference. You get what you pay for with suspension on these trucks.

Tried lots of Blazers before I bought mine ... Shocks were typical stiffer with Rancho

The amount of plies makes a major ride quality.

Very surprised about Bilstein... They normally were more aggressive on GM's line

Ran KYB + Bilstein on Benz... KYB didn't hold up.. Bilstein was stiff with nice handling.

I had put a leveling kit and air bag set-up on my 2011 GMC and swapped out old GM shocks for Bilsteins all around. Very happy with BIG ride and control
difference.. Have used KYB in past on other blazers, but after this recent experience, I'll be paying xtra for the BETTER SHOCK on my 88 Blazer when I
get to that point of my build !!!!
