Looking for some of you guys imput on what shocks you run with your 52s up front, ill need something good and sturdy since i do drive it on road from time to time. Thinking of bilsteins in 5150s (been told by many there real good)...anyone know something better or cheaper thats as good, not scared to pay i dont wana skimp and pay for it later.

Ill be using a set of alcan springs made(7inches of lift) up with the centerpin moved so i can leave the stock front hanger and move the rear shackle mount back to under the bodymount with a 7inch shackle, ill be using a zero rate to move the axle more forward and to give it an inch more. Does diy4x mill zero rates to help with my pinion angle instead of shims..?

Or even use a b52 mount up front and use a rearward hole, then just move the shackle mount back to where i get a good shackle angle with the 7inch shackles. Then i could use the zero rate to raise it a lil and angle the pinion...or take some lift outa the rear....

I know this is a good place for the 52s and i have searched..let me know your ideas please....thanks guys...

heres a lil.....something like it...

Your front is going to be way soft unless you go with a stiffer spring. I would add a sway bar of some sort. For shocks, I would get something adjustable but that is going to get into serious coin.

Ill have to see how soft it is when i get it all togeather, ill prob invest in some good shocks and leave the springs soft. Id rather not deal with the swaybar....They are also lift springs so they might have a lil more stiffness.

I think either foa or bilsteins with the external reservoir will be good and in my price range....the bilsteins seem to be between 100-150 and the foa shocks seem to be in the 150- range. I think the kings and sway a ways are tooooo expensive, i know tho you get what you pay for.

I was thinking the heavier valving and 12-14 inches of travel range with the ford towers will be good, but i wont know for sure till i get the springs mounted..

When i mount them and get the shackle angle to where it should be then ill get the pinion angle and then flex it some with the forklift. Ill buy limiting straps or bumps so my stock shaft doesnt puke till i get one.

i ran them with procomp 9000's without any problems. they arnt the best but they are $35.00 each.

with those kings air shocks do you not have to run coils or leafs? i heard of someone only running air shocks?? anyone have more info on that. sorry to hijack

I'm running leaf springs. Basically it is their smooth bodied remote reservoir shock (Basically the same as a coil set up but without the coil). They are extremely easy to change the valving on an with the amount of weight of my truck and the soft ride, they help my K5 handle great.

sorry i should have been more specific. is it possible to run air shocks and nothing else such as coilovers or leafs?

Yes, that is what they are designed for. They are not a good choise for the street though. They were designed for rock crawling. Here is a picture of the Adventurous Bronco that is linked with Fox air shocks. It is running 2.5's up front and 2" in the rear.

That's what I'm running... 14" travel Bilstein 5150's on the cast Super Duty towers...

I'm pretty happy with the setup, especially for the price of it all.

In my opinion the 7100's are the best way to go without going to a coilover or air shock. They work great and I have 56's with no sway bar.

avery and 74kay5....how much lift do you have and how does it drive off and onroad...?

I used to have 8" of lift but I yanked out a bunch of leaves so it's closer to 4" now. I'll get back to ya' on how they do off-road after our trip for New Years but it rides pretty nice on-road.

Several people we have sold Bilsteins to really like them both on and off road. I only know of one friend of mine that ran them on a K5 several years ago and he really liked them too.

I only have around 4" of lift. Love them off road. A little soft for the street. The truck sways a little without a sway bar and 56" springs all around, but not bad.
