shocks for 52s..?....and a few qs...post # 28 3-17-10

I have the 56"ers in the front. When i first did the swap i did the bil's 5125's (same valving as the 5150 just no res) i felt they were entirely too soft and would bottom out too often. I immediately swapped the SAW's i had in the rear to the front and couldn't be happier, so much so i have to remember to let off the gas on occasion.

i got the SAW's as a precursor to a 4 link but i think i will stay with the leaves it rides that good.

Subscribed! I'm looking forward to seeing how your spring swap turns out! I like that you are using new springs designed for the vehicle weight, instead of having to go with trial and error like a normal 52 swap seems to have to! Good luck bro, sounds good so far! :waytogo:

Thanks, ill be doing this swap as soon as ups delivers em here. Might not be till the new year tho. The alcans are for 6-7 inches of lift , ill use 7inch shackles and a zero rate to get it up there... (ive been doing a lil thinking) Ill be using my stock lift skyjacker shocks just to see how they work,(body roll on street) if they are fine ill get new ones just longer with ford towers... I doubt tho they will work so ill prob either buy rancho adjustables or 5150s with the ford shock towers in 12-14 inches of travel. A set of limiting straps will be needed also.

Or i might just use the springs with 7inch shackles and adjust the rear to match.....ill keep up with this thread, ill post pics and some good shots of this lil project as i get some of it done. It wont be a speedy project tho funds arent too good with the holidays....

no problem, wont have extra cash until payday...lol....a lil overtime helps.

I bought a set of 53inch alcans from the classifieds here from jeffhk5, I moved the shackle mount back to under the body mount. The axle came up 1.5 forward which is good, Also used 7inch shackles and poly bushings. The springs didnt settle yet much, it sits 1.5 higher than the rear which is 8 inches. I have a 10 degree shackle angle now as it sits but it has to settle. It rides great and handles nicely with my 39s. My rear shaft is way too short but I knew thats was going to happen. My pinion is at zero, ill get diy4x shims to get it where it belongs after it settles.

I've no idea how you east coast guys set up trucks.
I'm back from 7 days of trails in AZ, and I sure now that the 255/70 valving in the Bilstein 5125s is too soft, particularly on the rebound side. 5150 will have the same valving, unless its the dual shock application, in which case both are 170/60 (but you'd have two). Your results may vary - my Bilsteins are coming off my truck.

any shock ideas..?

Ok guys i have skyjacker nitros for now on my truck, they work ok still sense some body roll but nothing real bad. Im looking into a set of bilsteins or even some rancho adjustables, i dont have big bucks to spend on anything crazy or just let it alone......let me know what you think..? Id rather not get into swaybars and all that...

Rancho 99012 adjustables then i can soften em up offroad and stiffen em onroad

or

Maybe some bilstein 5150 reservoir shocks, heavier valving

or other ideas..?
