Here are a bunch of pics I took the other day.

I'm no machining expert so I can;t really give any insight to what most of them are. I just do volunteer work at the place. The website is http://www.workshopsforwarriors.org/ if you want it check it out. If you are ever in san diego let me know and I'll give you a tour.

edit...the pics are all upside down. I'll fix them and post up in a few minutes:doah:
edit again....looks like the iMac is defeating my photo editing skills....

on to the pics

Some Betenbender equipment. I met the owner and gave him a long tour of the USS Princeton when he was in San Diego. This equipment is 100% US made, by a great group of guys.

Should be obvious that I suck at photo rotating.....:haha:

These are a few of the welders. There are more, but once you have seen one.....

Thats a nice shop. All quality equipment for sure. I want it ALL! Hope to be there at some point. I'd sure hate to have to machine parts upside down all day though, talk about a headache! :D. Thanks for posting. Thats pretty much every machinist or fabricators dream shop. It is mine for darn sure. If I may ask, what type of parts or industry do they do, or are involved in making parts for? Understand if you can't discuss though.

His business is two sided.
1. Train, certify and place veterans into the US workforce.
2. Machining, welding, cutting, fabricating, ect anything that will make money to support #1

It is way more involved than that, but it sums it up pretty well.

I do know that he machines parts for HAAS, and a few other companies. Also involved in the ship repair industry.

Even more stuff is in place at the shop now. I'll try to get some more pics next time I am in there.

The newest addition is an AMADA laser machine. It's huge!!!

Amada makes great equipment. I'm jealous.

It's pretty freaking cool, all at a cost of about $1,000, 000 not including the electrical and pneumatic and ventilation support systems.

It's so cool to be part of or at least see it when a REALLY expeeensiiive piece of equipment is purchased and you get to see it from delivery to setup to YOU running it. And even better if it is YOU yourself a part of deciding on and or being THE ONE who makes the purchase for the company you're working for.

I've been at shops when a brand new cnc lathe or mill has been brought in, set up, and I ran it. One I ran for about 2 or 3 years was a Mitsubishi Horizontal CNC mill, with a 50 taper 12k rpm spindle, 20" sq. duel pallet changer tables. It was a trade show demo mill purchase so the only use was trade show use. Which can be and usually is abused but my company willing to take the risk cause cost of it vs brand new was BIG.

Cost we paid I was told was $480k, new was $1.2 mil. That does not sound exactly right to me, never has but I never did check cost of the machine myself, so hell what do I know, it could be correct. Anyways, I've purchased hydraulic shears, conventional mills, box & pan brakes, corner notchers and bench shears for companies I've worked for. LOVE spending other peoples money. And I've only bought top quality equipment for any of the companies I've worked at. Especially if I'm the one thats going to be using it.

I got a couple for you. A local shop I work with, photo 1 guy is walking on one of the machine tables rotary table is in the center and second table is to the right of it.
2nd and 3rd pic is of the operator platform it travels independently of the spindle and has a travel height of around 20-25ft..
