I am looking to install headers on my 88 K5 Blazer that still has the stock 350 TBI with A.I.R. I am looking at the Edelbrock shorty headers (EDL-65673) that are for the 93-95 Blazer with TBI and A.I.R. They do not offer one for the TBI with A.I.R. in the 1988 model and was wondering if anyone has ever installed one of these on their 1988 K5 with 350 TBI and A.I.R. or am I going to have to go with another brand? - Wes

you will need to notch the frame on driver side and plug the o2 hole and relocate it farther down.

this is a k30 88 ( OLD BODY STYLE STILL ) with 88-up ( NEW BODY ) edelbrock shortys on it.

I would rather not have to do any frame mods if possible. Your pics are of a non TBI and non A.I.R. set of shorty headers. I might not have the clearance problems you are having. Are the K30's a narrower frame than the V10 K5's? - Wes

I have dealt with him before on drive shaft issues. I will see about giving him a call. I would rather do the work myself if I can find a direct replacement set of headers for my K5. Thanks for pointing me in Randy's direction, though if I need his help. - Wes

you have other choices... thorley's are available with A.I.R

I'm looking at a sweet looking set from L&L products with A.I.R, expensive tho.. $500 to 600... 1/2" flange, etc....

I have heard many folks say that headers is one place where you don't want to go cheap! I have had my fair share of headaches from headers that just won't stop leaking and I would rather not go there again. I am looking to get a set of good headers that will last into my next engine. A 383 TBI from Blueprint engines in about a year or so hopefully! - Wes

Just looked at L and L Products website and those headers look sweet! However, they are long tube instead of shortys. How hard is it to fit those into a 4X4 and get around the front driveshaft and T-Case? Anyone installed a set of long tubes in a K5 Blazer before? If so, any pics of how the exhaust is routed? - Wes

well, i'd be the first to tell you not to skimp on headers.... i spew that all the time in here..... :wink1:

I'm sure i'll get some grief for this, but honestly, shorty's are a waste of time imo, might as well stay with manifolds...... the performance difference between a shorty and a long tube, or even a tri-y like a thorley is HUGE...

tons of people run long tubes... some brands hang a bit low, but the biggest issue sometimes is the collector hitting the shackle bolt.. not all the time, but some.. and generally a pretty easy fix by bending them...

Any pics on how to run the exhaust with long tubes? Or just let the muffler shop worry about routing them? I have heard that it is a pain with the fuel lines in the passenger side rail and the the T-case in the way. Once past those two issues, looks to be just duplicating the driver side. - Wes

Get the Edelbrock TES system. It comes with shorty headers and a high flow Y pipe. I highly recomed it. I have had mine for 10 years. no rust ,no leaks, I have never replaced a gasket. direct bolt on to stock 3" exhaust. No need to go dual. TBI loves single 3"

My headers are stainless steel but i dont know if they still make them stainless.
You can get it with or without A.I.R. Do not buy pickup headers for your year K5. they wont fit.

While my 89 does not have A.I.R i am using the 88-95 truck headers on my K5 and you MUST plug the 02 sensor hole and then add an 02 sensor bung in the exhaust pipe just below the collector flange. I only needed to grind less than 1/4" on my driverside frame rail to fit the Flowtech headers i'm using. If you go this route you will have to redo the Y pipe as the 88-95 trucks don't have the pipes exit in the same place they do on a K5.

Thunder - On your Edelbrock TES, did it have the O2 senser mountings installed already or did you have to have the muffler shop install them for you? - Wes

The TES is 50 state smog legal, It has all the necessary fittings for sensors and AIR if needed.. Including the 02 sensor bung in the factory location. I installed them myself. The TES is a direct bolt in.
Replaces the stock manifolds and y pipe. Matched up perfictly with stock exhaust.
You should replace the muffler and cat with a better flowing stuff. The stock muffler and cat are very restrictive. I went with a 70 series flowmaster muf and High flow cat.

Thunder - Received the TES today in the mail and the A.I.R. pipes are different than my stock pipes. Can you post some pics of your TES setup from the driver and passenger side? - Wes
