It seems to be an older Bellevue. Stamped on the top of the alum housing is (model) 5721 and underneith it is stamped (part/production#?) 39663. Probably hasen't been run in 20 years but since it is on an old Mexican guys truck that he lives in on the property of a guy I know he may be willing to sell it for CHEAP. I'm thinking to offer him $50 to see if he bites. What do yo think and would it be worth it. Would it hold it's own compared to an 8274 or at least close to it?

I saw that band brake looking thing. Is that only to apply pressure to the spool so when you pull the cable out manually it doesn't become a birds nest on the drum? Thanks

kota4bye runs one on his truck.you might wanna pm him.here is his set up

The external band brake is the load holding brake on this type of winch. It works fine but will require adjusting and occasionally having the shoe replaced as it will wear. From what I have seen there is no free spool out only power out on this type of winch

upon further investigation, Brodie is correct, the winch is free spool only for cable out. I found a good link to an original set of instructions for this type of winch.

Hey, thanks for the link. Sorta hard to read the info but if i get this winch I'll have to find a way to get better copies. Before I started this thread I found another on that same website that had some good info too. Thanks a bunch for the help.

I need to get another membership so I can see your pics. Photobucket is blocked on the .mil network over here too, but I'll try to check out your pics later on a different network.

I have a bastard of a winch, the Warn 8200. It isn't a bellvue, but not quite a 8274 either. Warn only made them for a couple of years before the 8274. Here is the most complete info I've found on it. I can't even tell if this link still works, so let me know if it does. I've got the info saved at home, but not with me.
