Should I get this?

Yea if he has the large bearing 10 bolt. If not then he can't swap it from 6 lug to 8 lug. Then he would need to swap to a large bearing 10 bolt. See what I mean now?

Im pretty sure that all the 10 bolts used the large bearing hubs. The dana 44s were the only ones that used the small bearing hubs. Either way to get the large bearing hubs to fit all you need is the spindles to go with it.

I think there is a reason he wants to stick with 6-lug

However, if money is no object http://www.spidertrax.com/Front_10

Well you see. iwant my 6 lugs yes. Cuz the tires im gettin are 15s and i dont want to buy rims when daves giving me the 6 Lugs i want. And the reason to get the 8 lug is not just because of the perches, which id be fine moving, but i like the shorter axle in the back which the 8 lugs seem to be and 6 lugs are wider.

Guys gets outa work at 5. As do i so hes gonna take the cover off and check gears. If gears and fluid look ok ill take it. If not ill skip. Its $100 that im sure i could get back if it doesnt work out. Ill slowly build it ul if gears look good and i may buy a 6 lug one, swap everything i want then sell the 8 to someone.

Well my new 14 bolt looks nice haha. 4.10 gears which look to be in great shape. Fluid wasnt even milky. Even a complimentary gov bomb lol. Are the gov bombs in these as bad as they are in 10bolts??

Now ima find some 6 lug axles, disk setup and a locker. Check out the bearings and seals. Should have a nice solid rear axle with 4.10s. Guess i gotta leanr how to redo the front lol.

For $100 i couldnt pass.

I wont weld it cuz i still wanna be able to turn without the squeeky lol. But some locker. And the guy thought it was a one ton. Was a k20 so that makes more sense. If i woulda seen a k20 a year ago before this sight i wouldnt have known the differance either lol. So that makes sense that the glove box tag said 4.10s. Im siked :D

Well Full detroit then, otherwise you will not be happy at all. Man you sure are picky, straight shinny sheet metal, lockers that do not bang, or make the tires squeaky. Must be a skinny pants thing :dunno::dunno:

a govb bomb 14bsf isn't much better than a 10 bolt. I've seen them blow through the cover when they go (and abused to get that way) I have one in my 99, works pretty good, but I'm not doing holeshots or turning big tires with it either. If your lucky the clutches will burn up and you'll not have to worry about it blowing up....If it has a govbomb I don't think you can put anything else in the carrier. You need an open carrier or replace it.
And as far as the 6 lug rims I got for you, I can blow a couple more holes in them to make em 8 bolt???

what year truck did it come out of?

Haha it just might be hahaha. It runs in the family really, my dads even worse haha.

Found ORD has superior axle shafts for $162 each thats not bad, now to find disk brake stuff :D

Dave its out of an 86 i thought. I guess ill need a carrier too then. And dont toich them rims haha

I think that's an exaggeration. Look at the amount of material in the 14bsf carrier compared to the 10bolt carrier. The whole "locker" is bigger, not just just the same gov-bomb with a bigger ring gear. I can't see why anybody would worry about a 14bsf with 33" tires, regardless of the carrier.

My 14b s/f "gov-bomb" has been going strong for 27 years or so, although I've only had it maybe 12. Going full Detroit is the same effort from an open or gov-lock carrier.

I could prolly keep the gov bomb in and see how it works. A locker shouldnt be too bad with the axle installed if i put the truck up on the lift. Ill get shafts and look into disk brake stuff before getting a locker

Congrats on the deal!

So, how wide is the axle from wheel surface to wheel surface? Just curious if it's the narrower one.....

Didnt have a tape on me when we picked it up. Ill check tonight. And yes i know about the carrier now. Cant be that hard to find one.

Heck, I'm heading to the junkyard today and I'm sure there are lots of carriers out there. Check your local yard and I'm sure you'll run accross one.

I think once you do that though, everything needs to be set up again......
