I'm machining a new crankshaft pulley for my Detroit Diesel since I was wanting to use a serpentine setup. I'll have an alternator, power steering pump, a/c compressor and onboard air compressor. I haven't purchased any of them yet, but it seems that the pullies are easier to come by in 6 groove. What is everyones thoughts? 6 or 8 groove?

If it were mine... Assuming you have room and the pullies are available for all accessories I'd go with the 8 groove style to help prevent slippage.

I've only seen 6 groove for the Yorks, might wanna check into that first...

check the specs on the shaft dia for ford p/s engine pumps. the ford runs the bigger belt.

might be able to get a ford pully and use it on the gm pump.

or the whole remote pump unit from the ford on the detroit. and then have a better / smaller pump. and mount remote resivor were you have space.

I was actually going to go with a KRC pump so I could adjust the flow rate, but it looks like them and PSC only offer 6 groove pulleys.

Looks like it's 6 groove for this guy. That's standard small block Chevy anyway.

For onboard air are you running the compressor in the stock engine location? IIRC and this is from a long time ago they run off the back of the gear train, seems like you wouldn't have enough room.

No, not running off the gear drive. Running a standard York off the belt.
