Inner rockers are shot, and are beyond my ability to reproduce and replace. I have good outer rockers, and the floor pans are rock solid. I'd like to replace the inner rockers with square tubing as it is an offroad rig afterall!

Rest of the truck is coming along nicely... Might actually get it done before the snow flies!

thanks...

eh, I usually don't post much in these threads as I figure most have seen this stuff in my build thread... I also know most wont do something like the cab supports, but it's one approach...

its an awesome aproach.i wish i had the balls to cut up my 72 and do that.i just cant see, to want to go that far.would be much stronger than the stock boxes though.

thanks... :D pretty sure Colby and Shawn have done the 2 x 4 straight into the cab sheetmetal/structure..

even leaving cab supports in, it's a pretty basic approach to my vehicle...... can't say for a first gen, might need different engineering...

mark, measure, cut.... start on the outside and work your way in... mine is about a 1/2" below the door and 3/4" sticking out....

pretty sure I'll be ok jacking on that.......... :wink1:

or dropping it on a boulder..... :haha:

One way to do it, although not as bad ass as Ryokens is to slice out the area for the 2x4,

tack in the 2x4. Then you can take 2x2 square and tie it from the 2x4 right into the form near the body mount.

Crawl under there and it becomes clear. Done even this way it can take a serious amount of abuse. I recommend at least 3/16" or 1/4"

Are any of the trucks where you've done this still alive? :D

I can think of Colby's, and Pauly's tan one is 'retired'...

The one thing I wonder about with mine, and I think Russell might have this concern too, is that everyone who does this does it to K5's. At least it seems that way. We've got trucks.

What do you guys do with your fenders?

I'm gonna section mine like I did the back...... still need to cut the slider bevels too...

as for mounting on the front fender, you can mod the inside back area a little to maintain a "bolt on" fender too.. I mocked it up on my crappy fenders, but need a new pair.... I'm sure some have just tacked the fenders in place too at the bottom...

I'd like the fenders to be removable in case you ever got into a literal fender bender and had to replace them only but not involving grinding.

My buddy downstate can do this I'm sure but it's describing this stuff to him that I'm failing at.

been awhile since I mocked up that front fender mounting.. but I was on the same line of thinking, needs to removable... it's a little tricky, iirc, mine worked out where if I just made a few cuts, added a tab to the fender, I could bolt it down to the top of the rocker...

when I actually put a clip on, I'll be sure to document it....

looks to be that the rocker box has been left on here on this one.did you just take and cut out the inner rocker area for this?and fill it with the 2x4?my rocker boxes are still good.the rockers are not great, but i want to do something like this eventually.

Heres mine done on a truck, I plan on redoing them soon to extend them to the front but when the truck was built we had some scrap and it happened to be almost the right length

here is some from the inside, I have never felt the need to mount rockers to the frame if there is enough of the body you can put them on. Never had a problem with this either
