This is the last rig I had that was lifted and legal.. It had locked 1 tons front and rear but I never did have the heart to cut the somewhat pristine sheet metal. Hence, the 35s on a 4"lift.

Mine. 37s 6" lift. It was mostly legal in Idaho. Totally legal in Wyoming

I daily drove this for a couple years. It was not legal but I didn't have too many issues. Once again pretty sure it would be legal where I live now. 8" of lift and 40s

I thought CA had all the smog checks and hoops to jump through and restrictions on what engines can and can't be swapped...

Yes that's true unless your chassis is exempt or you live in a smog exempt area of the State. My truck doesn't require any smog equipment.

There is like 6 zip codes in Cali that do not have smog checks every 2 years and only have them on change of ownership.

Thats just smog. The minute you put a turbo on something youre down at chp getting your car impounded. Anything with smog just cant be messed with beyong the bullshit carb approved mods. For example with my smogger blazer I could probably roll around with a 8 inch lift and big tires but if I swapped out to a manual trans I would be flagged by smog, failed, sent for an inspection to make sure the right trans is back in and from there on out you have to smog anually instead of bi annual to make sure your being a good boy.

As far as street legal goes I always say if it has mud flaps its legal. Basically if you cover your obvious points you wont be nitpicked.
