side steps, anyone run em?

those sliders look nice blue. are they mounted to the frame and who are they made by?

Well I like to tell people that I got them at Wal-Mart when they ask. :wink1: They were made by echobit. I worked with him to tweak his original slider design into this before he went out of business.

They are mounted to the body in 2 places with braces back to the body mount brackets. Most people here will tell you that this is better than mounting to the frame because the frame is so far away and body flex can actually make them damage the body. You can slide the weight of the truck across something like this.

well it looks like im either going to have to get a tubing bender and make my own or wait till you sell yours. maybe somebody will start making them in the meantime... like kert!

Is he still doing that partime (DPI) or am I thinking of someone else?

Don't do the chains, "been there, done that".:doah: If you do any mud riding, they get caked up and are slick as owl sh!t. They will also catch your foot, especially if you wear any type of boots with a heel, if you're not careful, which could twist an ankle. Plus, if you mount them to the rocker, they are too far under the door, which causes you to hit your shin on the rocker. I yanked mine within a couple of weeks after installing them.

No one ever thinks of the consequences  :haha:I thought that kindof stuff might happen when I thought about using a chain. It SOUNDS like a good idea at first, would move over rocks, not bend or break. As was said wet muddy chain is like slick snot. And when you slide your foot in and it swings inboard of the truck from your weight WACK! into the rocker, then your leveraging your shin against the rocker while trying to get in the truck. OUCH! does not sound fun.

Blue's built in step rock sliders look pretty nice but yes, there is less rock clearence for rock crawling. If he's not doing that then no big deal though. I say just hike your fat arse up in the truck and stop being a pansy! :D:haha::haha::haha:j/k............................................not really, j/k...........................................kinda. :haha:j/k

I used about a 20" length of cheap ace hardware chain, drilled a couple holes on the lip at the bottom of the rocker and bolted the chain on. It has about 4 or 5" of sag in the center so you can get your foot in and it won't swing away and leave you hopping around holding your shin. I came down pretty hard on a rock and smashed the rocker and my door in and all that happened to the step was some scratches and it wore some of the bolt head off. My vote is for chain it's cheap, easy and I don't have to listen to the wife complain about not being able to get in the truck.:D

It looks like you're already set in this direction but I vote some sort of incorporated slider as well... regular drop steps would look stupid on a truck that low IMO but a slider would look good as well as serve two functions.

And if you weld the center links together, you can make a flat spot for your foot.

It has been covered on here before, try searching for "chain steps". I'll post up some pics as soon as the wifey gets home with the camera.

I put them forward like that so when the weight of your foot is centered in the chain you are not trying to get your other leg in the truck from way back towards the rear of the seat. When I use the one on the drivers side I put my left foot in the step then step into the cab with the right and vice versa for the other side. Thanks for the comment, but I still have quite a bit of work to do to get the truck how I want it.
