side steps...what do you have or what would you buy?

Here's my DIY4x bars with the "kick out" I had them add.

Hang slightly higher than most nerf bars.

Nerf bars are useless, needlessly expensive, and rust out. These will last as long as the body of the truck does, you could jack the truck up off of them, and cost what LMC wants for a set of black nerf bars.

I've seen lots of those step things last fine until the first wheeling trip or "whoops, didn't see that stick" moments.

Seen the price on nerf bars for our trucks lately?

Exactly. WITH the Rhino Lining and shipping to Michigan they were only about $100-150 more than the black bars LMC sells. If I had just rattle canned them black it'd have been about a wash.

I remember when you could get the plain Smittybilt bolt on bars for $100 for our trucks from SummitRacing. Those have been gone for a long time now.

my front and back bumpers are from smittybilt..... love em.. starting to rust up now though.. (freebies so cant complain)

i thought about getting side nerf bars.. but then id look like a lifted bumper car....

I put a set of AMP steps on mine. I had to build some brackets to mount them to the cab floor and inner rockers. I also had to cut the steps to a shorter length.

When up they arent really hidden, the outer lip of the step sits at the lower bead of the rocker. If I would have mounted them so they were completely hidden they would have been too far under the truck when the steps were down.

When down they are a great step height so my wife and kids can get in/out.

They are very unique. I have never seen them on another k5. I have the LED lights for them too.

They would suck if you were a serious wheeler.

i ran some of those. Mounted on the inside of my rocker. I put 6 self tappers through each one... Hidden falls took care of one, and my football buddy got the other. now i have six torn out holes on each side of my truck... =/
