hey guys, i'm about to throw a new transfer case into the whip, is it recommended to use silicone along with the transfer case to adapter gasket? or is the gasket sufficient? its a np208.

thanks,

matt

they make actual gaskets for that? :eek1: :D I have always just slapped some right stuff on there.

Throw the gasket away and use a 3/8" bead of ultra black RTV and no leaks ever.

I used RTV on my tcase adapters for gaskets. I used Ultra Grey and it has worked well sofar as adapter gaskets, tcase gaskets, diff gaskets, etc. I have been using Ultra Grey now for a few years since a OTR diesel mechanic friend of mine said that is all they use on the trucks they work on and he recommended it to me. Sofar I am inclined to agree with him.

well i used some black silicone along with the gasket, and so far no drips, but i haven't moved the rig much.

I've had bad experiences with RTV black for xfer case sealing. RTV grey has been great so far. I use a gasket between the NV4500 and 208, RTV grey on case halves and tail cone.

RTV + Gasket, if i have the gasket otherwise just RTV. And stop calling your rig a whip.

RTV + gasket. That's what I use.

P.S. just wondering why it's called a "whip"

you should see my other thread, i guess calling it a whip is drawing some attention :haha:
