What fluid do you run in it?


Here is the basis for the question. I just took the pump out of this truck I am building and it was full of brake fluid, not power steering fluid.

Just got a new pump. What is the best fluid to run?

Uhh, brake fluid in the power steering system? Mighta been some kind of generic hydraulic fluid.

or your PO was a dork.

Should be PS build, or maybe ATF, in the PS system, including the hydroboost pump and booster proper.

Obviously the master cylinder should have brake fluid in it.

I run PS Fluid in mine. Brae Fluid can eat the seals in the pump and there are arguments over running ATF due to moisture concerns.

I dont know any of it and since it comes from the PS pump I run PS Fluid.

That's what I thought. Probably explains why the pump was leaking the way it was. Got a whole new unit with resvoir. Thanks guys.

I use Valvoline's synthetic p/s fluid. I've read that the GM brand fluid is the best, but it's freakin' outrageously priced.
