Silver Dune's 87 Jimmy

Right before you put them on, put a little clear silicon on the back, let it dry JUST A LITTLE and then install. You don't want it slimy going on, then it wont keep it off the door well enough.

Or just get a roll of rubber from Home Depot, the real small stuff that's like 1/4" wide x 1/8 thick and stick it to the high spots on the door.

I like the silicone idea. I'm going to try that. Thanks!! Gotta love this site and the solutions the brothers always seem to come up with.:waytogo:

Nice to see a solid Blazer in Michigan. When I got The Blazer two and a half years ago I lived in Traverse City and folks were always stopping and talking to me about it.

Most seemed slightly surprised a 95% rust free truck HADN'T come from Michigan.

Strangely I got less comments on my 90% rust free M1008. Maybe the camo paint?:dunno:

X2....but instead of just putting it on the high spots, I would just put the rubber all along the perimeter of the S.S. and screw it into place.

BTW, I plan on doing the same thing to my Suburban, but instead of S.S., I'm using diamond plate for a little extra flash.

I thought about using polished alum. diamond plate but was worried it might reflect to much in the bright sunlight with the top off. Would work really well for you though.

I imagine so. Adam doesnt have a roll bar/cage does he, or does he? dont remember. A guy I was talking to at the campground told me you couldnt go on the dunes w/o a roll bar if you had an open top. Course I could be guilty of taking someones word for it. I know what you're getting at. Fiberglass isnt going to offer much protection in the event of a rollover. Ima have to check that out officially.

No roll bar, tops gotta be on and people in the rear need to have helmates on. You can have just a roll bar in the back to remove the top, you dont need a full cage. :thumb:

But I want a roll bar (and eventually cage) cuz that sucks having to scrounge up all those helmates, especially when everybody wants to ride their bikes and quads when we go up as well...

I went in with just a top just fine. Rode all day in my dads k5 with this cage no helmets

only took 4 hrs to make. Gonna reinforce and add more bracing to frame.

Yah no helmets needed with any type of cage/rollbar. Top on or off.

I know, I think it needs more triagulation.

Would a factory roll bar qualify? The reason I ask is a guy who has a seasonal site at the campground we stay at has a K5 with a factory rollbar . He goes out all the time and I have yet to see any helmets on any of his passengers.

They litterally just want a roll bar of any kind, they dont inspect it, just take a quick glance. What works great is to take a cj roll bar and flip it around i think (my dad did this in his years ago and it fit perfect.)

They are very lenient, I have seen pickups with seats mounted in the bed and just a hoop no bracing running around the dunes.
