I just ordered a set of metric and standard SK brand G-pro locking flex ratcheting wrenches. I was pumped up about these things since I have been wanting a set for while. I open the box tonight to find out these things are made in TAIWAN....WTF!!! Man was I pissed off.

They may be fine tools. They look nice enough. But I really thought SK would be made in the FREAKING USA!!! Both sets totaled over $250!!! I read tonight that Snapon ratcheting wrenches are also made overseas but I don't know if it is true. Again WTF???

Does anyone make a flex ratcheting wrench in the USA??? I read Craftsman's wrenches labeled USA have a ratchet mechanism from Taiwan and weren't that great anyway.

Maybe I need to just accept overseas tools but I like to buy quality USA made tools to keep for a lifetime. Anybody else feel the same or I am just crazy?

I try and get US steel whenever I can.

At least, however, you're supporting a US ally and not the mainland Chinese ;)

SK is a good cheaper brand tool. Everthing is made some where else now. It's cheaper! !!!!

Matco's wrenches, ratchets, and ratcheting wrenches are made in Texas ;)

You won't be paying $250 for 2 sets though, I can tell you that.

Its a bummer how more and more tools companies are taking there stuff to china or where ever to be produced. I will never but Craftsman again since they went to the lazer etched sockets. they just look cheap. No stamping on them at all. Even if it IS the same socket it just looks cheap. I will stick with Snap On for most stuff.

I did go to Proto tools and read a cool bit of history about there tool company. They were made in America. dont know if they still are. but check this link out. Click on view timeline.

Well, the Craftsman ones do say Made in the USA.

Forget all that, tools or no tools. If we dont start buying american, we'll be working and buying from rich asian folk. hope you like chinese food

Yes, like buying a Suburban, which, being from an American manufacturer, is assembled in Mexico.

Or my Isuzu, being a Japanese truck, which was made in Indiana.

Both are made from parts made all over the world, of course, but much like the fungibility of oil pricing, thank you Dilbert, "buying American" is pretty vague too.

There is a company called Danaher. They make the Craftsman series, SK series, Gear Wrench series, and a few others. They are located on the East coast but all their tools come from overseas. SK is not a bad tool.

That was a good read. I had to laugh when I saw the old literature claiming their wrenches eliminate SK (skinned knuckles). Was that a jab at SK or did that company even exist back then?

Dont know if it was a jab, doubt it. SK has not been around for that long, not as long as Proto.

You are correct and incorrect at the sametime. Danaher makes tools for Craftsman, owns Gear Wrench, Armstrong, Kingsley Tool, and Matco. I forget about SK off the top of my head.

But yea, some of their stuff is overseas, some of it is domestic. Thus the Matco stuff I mentioned being made in Texas.

Buying American is next to impossible anymore. Something doesn't have to be entirely made in America to say it on the package.

Theres nothin like a Lincoln stick welder , a mask, rods, and all the neccesities for 150$

Actually free is even better, especially when it comes with a makita angle grinder, bench top drill press, various tool boxes full of tools (mostly junk but good for trail tools). :D

I kinda felt guilty as I didn't even know the guy but no one in the family has any use for the stuff, so what the heck.

Glad to see that others are buying Made in the USA. If more people took the time to do it our economy would kick ass. I seem to have a knack for finding a tools weak point if it made overseas. Made in the USA as a general rule always hold up better. And when your in a tight place trying to get it done, its nice to have a wrench that grips and holds together.

i break tools. it doesnt matter if they are american or not, i break them. now i am all about trying to support the economy and all that jazz. i also prefer to buy from local businesses when i can over large corporations. but the reality is something else. unfortunately we live in a global community, blah blah blah, everything is so complicated now.

(Big Breath)

Global economy is a big corporation's politically correct way of saying, "we are outsourcing your job to a country that we can exploit and you will buy it because it is cheaper (and a piece of crap generally) which will in turn put your neighbor who was working at the factory that used make that widget out of a decent paying, put my kids through college type of job so some CEO and his cronies can make a bigger profit margin." Now the guy who got laid off works at Mal-Wart and takes it in the ass every day because the media and giant corporations will never tell you to buy American because it will hurt the richest one percent of the populations profit margin. So now it is up to people who now have to work 80 hours a week to make ends meet at some dead end job to take the time to figure this out (which is not likely) and wish they would have supported their livelihood and others by supporting their neighbors and others that make the stuff in the USA in when they could have afforded to in the first place. Justify it however you want but that is where a global economy is taking us.
