Will sliding side windows fit inplace of fixed ones? Do they use same rubber, seals etc? If so, where can I find some with factory tint in very good condition? For 89 gmc jimmy.

Yes they will fit, no they don't use the same seals, and good luck finding a set with factory tint. The only place you are going to find original windows with factory tint is on an existing top, they aren't made anymore.

As for the seals, you can get them from LMC and Classic.

The openings are the same regardless of the window used in them.

They don't??? Odd. I used the factory set on my '85 K5 Blazer that came with the fixed side windows when I replaced them with sliding windows out of an '83 K5.

As for where to find them, a junk yard. I kind of feel bad about the amount of them I have let go to the crusher.

I used the solid glass seals when I swapped some sliders in too...worked for me. :dunno:

If you need some pics let me know, I have a few of the process in my photobucket album.

Well, I guess I am wrong or it was something with the tint versus non-tint. LMC shows 2 different seals depending on whether there is factory deep tint or not. They also show a different part number for the sliding window rubber and the solid window rubber.

Weird that they'd have different pn's for that...

has to do with the thickness of the frame that retains the sliders. GM list a different seal for the slider as compared to the fixed.

Ya I noticed that LMC had 2 different part numbers on the seals too. I guess I need to find some ss windows first.

I'm so much more a fan of solid glass... I've had sliders, they look ok, add a little function, but I just love that clean hotrod look of solids...

I'll be swapping a set of solids i saved from my 77 into my 87 cap at some point... probably next fall...

There probably is some very minute difference, but in the real world, either will work. My 1985 K5 had OEM non tinted solid windows. I replaced them with factory tinted sliders from a 1983 K5, using the 1985 solid window seals, and had absolutely no problems doing so.

Funny I ordered a 1977 and checked the slider window and again in 1986 cause it just looked "loaded" to me instead of the scotsdale plain window, now :thinking:I'm with you preferring the solid nonslider looking "hotrod clean" and no leaking issues too.:waytogo:

Does anyone know how to get a slider "rebuilt" with new track felts etc. Mine look real good but are a bear to open and close and leak a bit in a hard rain. Do glass shops do that or are they just shot?:dunno:
