Slip Yoke?

Okay so I am gonna sound like a retard here but what is a slip yoke? I hear tons of bad stuff about them. Is it where the driveline kinda looks like there is a shock in the middle of it? How exactly does the eliminator kit work?

On the back of NP 208 transfer cases the yoke that the drive shaft attaches to the transfer cases with is a free floating shaft wich engages to the transfer case with splines and the drive shaft with a yoke and single u joint. If the drive shaft were out, the slip yoke can be pulled right out.
 
So I am assuming that I don't have one because the yoke on the back of my t-case is bolted on. So what is the one like mine? It looks like it extends and contracts somehow.
 
If your truck is older than '80 then it will have a fixed yoke, with a slip joint on the driveshaft itself. In 80 or 81 they started putting the slip joint on the transfer case, with a solid driveshaft.
 
I don't know if yours is still visible but if you look at the rear of your transfer case, You should see a little tag with something like New process 205, etc... If you don't have a slip joint, that's actually good. There's quite a few here who have paid good money to change them over to what you've got.Yours is called a fixed yoke. Right behind it you should have a cv joint and lower on the shaft you should have a slip joint and then your rear u joint. That's the same setup I've got on my paperweight of a chevy 4x4 shortbed.

Not unless it's been modified. In stock form it should be just a plain ujoint.
