Well I've never really done any fabricating but my truck needs bumpers, sliders and a gas tank skid plate. I decided the rear bumper would be the easiest so I started with that. I started with a 3"by 4" 3/16 rectangular tube. Decided to wrap around the sides with 3 by 3 tube. I made the bumper brackets out of 1/4 and my tow points out of 3/8. My horizantal brackets and tow points both go right through and are welded to both sides of the tube. My tow points are welded to my vertical brackets. Here's some pics. I'm open to any opinions or advice good or bad.

I'm going on a run tomorrow so I had to bust my ass get it done enough to go wheelin. Almost done just needs some clean up. There is one design flaw. I have to raise the box to install it. You can probably see from the brackets that it's for a 2" body lift.

I had to hack the box for what I wanted to do and no that's just primer. It will be black. I like hoew it turned out. Needs a little more grinding, a paint job then I'm on to sliders.

VERY nice! i like how everything is tucked up nice and close to keep the departure angle good. i'll do a similar thing with my bumper build when i can afford some tube to expand on the hitch i'm building.

I was looking at your thread. I like what you've done too. Front bumper looks good. I could have tucked the bumper in further but I like it there as a step. sticks out a few inches at the back.

mine will also stick out a few inches in the back. i'm going to put some step-traction stuff on there that i saw at the auto-parts store. kind of like tire tread, with an adhesive on the backside so accessing the back of my blazer is slip-free. the rest of the bumper (when i finally make it!) will be tucked really tight to the body, so tehre won't be a step there - only on top of the hitch/light box. :)

i'm going to put a reciever tube in the front of my truck so i can mount a winch either front or rear on my rig - i think i'll get a stinger and build a step onto it so that i can access my engine compartment easily. :)

anyway, i like what you've done!

I thought you were making pikes out of the ends of the "U" for the rear, but then I see how they fit into the wheel well, and it works. And won't get hjung up on anything.

Hmm ...

Damn nice for your first attempt. I like it!!:D

Thats pretty sweet! Is 1/4 inch strong enough for an attachment point?

Thanks guys. It turned out better than I expected. I think the 1/4 inch is good for the attatchments but I guess time will tell. I had it out today and rubed it on some trees but never jacked on it or smashed it, so it's not really tested yet.:D

You ran your attachment points through the bumper so why didn't you continue them all the way down the mounting plate?

It does look good though:D

Whats those cab corner things? Balzer
My cab mounts broke through the floor letting my cab flex real bad. The cab split from the corner of the window almost all the way to the door. I fixed the body mounts and when I had it painted they fixed it, but after a little while the paint started to crack in the same place. So I made those to more or less cover it up, but it also made it stronger.
