Slow Go on 90 k5_ ChevyToy04

80-90, i use the valvoline synthetic, its really not that much more, and I like me some synthetics:waytogo:

Each axle will be roughly 3-4 qts, closer to 3 i think, depending on if you spill some... which you shouldnt

There is another one though, like a 90-140??? or something, that may do better in your warmer temps, but im sure its not that hot in the winter in georgia... could be...idk. But 80-90 will be just fine. maybe use the thicker stuff in the summer when its real hot out if ya want. Gear oils gear oil IMO.

We have average temps. 80-90 sounds good. I think our 99 z71 we used like 75-90 though and so I was unsure. I just was gonna change mine and know it was fresh

75w90 or close will work great for you.

Synthetic is worth the extra cash if you're going to change the fluid and leave it for several years. If you plan on dunking it in the mud and water all the time then just run the cheapest gear oil you can find since you'll be changing it often.

Thanks man, I have to replace the rear pinion seal? Cause when I poured it in and came back later to drive it, there was a puddle of fresh gear oil underneath

Depends on where it's leaking out of. Just to ask the obvious, did the gasket seal around the diff cover?

Yeah I got underneath and could see where it ran down. I'll try to get a pic and you tell me what you think needs replacing

I'd recommend the general garage forum too. You'll get more educated opinions on diff work than me.

Its not really what I wanted and I will be 3 or 4 years before I can fool with it again to even start making it what I want. I think I'm going to sell it or trade for something I can enjoy while in college and later get something else

What don't you like about it? It seems fine to me. They don't have to be all out rigs to be enjoyable. Get it running decent, take the top off, and enjoy it for what it is.
