Slowly but surely, the 1988 V20 Sub

I had a 2000's model nv3500 in my k5. I loved that trans, but i was too scared of putting it into my suburban. It worked well in a gutted out k5, but i think the weight of a suburban would have led to a failure.

Decided to tinker with a project I’ve been thinking about for a little while. Have this nice freshly recovered 3rd gen dodge center console gathering dust, and figured the burb would be a good home for it.

I was right it’s so comfortable! Didn’t get the rear mounts done since the sun came out and heated things up in a hurry. But it’s Atleast usable now

Does it have storage?

it does, some of them have lockable storage in the bottom half but this one was newer and didn’t. The top half has a ton of good storage in it I’ll get you some pictures tomorrow if I remember. I’m going to keep an eye out for a good 4th gen one like what I put in my 07 that this console came out of.

this is the newer one, super comfortable and the cute holders are the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of using.

Didn’t get home until late and the power was out when I got back due to some very gnarly storms that blew through today. After working on the generator I managed to sneak in some suburban time. Got the new fan clutch installed since the one on the burb was about to go through the radiator.

I’m going to commit a sin and install a modern single din radio. Normally I wouldn’t cut the dash but where someone already has I don’t feel so bad. I’ve also got a spare bezel that someone already cut so I can put it back to factory if wanted.

All good!
I was just too cheep to buy a decent one. Plus I never drive mine. If I did i’d what something modern. For sure.

I drove the burb again tonight and the dodge console is perfect, super comfy and perfect height for Operating the NV4500. Taking it on a mini roadtrip this weekend so the tunes and console are going to be fantastic. Also curious what the mileage will be, can’t be worse than the 9.5 I averaged before

Have fun!

I really like the way your sub is turning out!

thanks Dean! Atleast someone likes my implementation of dodge caravan seats and dodge console :haha: I’m thinking of taking next Tuesday off and taking it on a road trip to farmall-land USA before they close for good in September. Nothing like going to look at old stuff in an old burb!

Got the cheap cup-holder insert installed on the console last week before a roadtrip Saturday.

Having the large console and cup holders is a huge win for this thing, made the trip very comfortable. The NV4500 made a huge difference too, was able to do 73-75 on the trip down and kept it at 68 on the way home later in the night, got 14.01 mpg over the course of 350 miles for the day

Nothing crazy to report with the burb, haven’t driven it enough this year! Used it as a mobile winch platform to winch my new Dana 60 on the trailer this morning. Need to get a winch mounted to the trailer, but for now this will do

Took the burb up to bass pro to get a better sleeping bag now that it’s colder and went to a range day at a co workers place. Then went camping Saturday night. Saturday turned into one Hec of a good day for the old burb.

At the range, fun suburban accessories including the new (and super comfy) sleeping bag still in its box.

Getting camp set up later that night, even got my friend with his 20 year newer burb out

With colder weather upon us I’m really glad I spent $200 on a sleeping bag yesterday. We’re going to see how far into winter we can expand our camping season this year. With the 30mph wind gusts I was happy to have the burb and not sleep in a Hammock all night
