I bought a k5 that was an unfinished project. I added my 4.56 axles 36s engine trans ect that went from my old 86 I rolled that went into the new 88 body that had a 3 inch body lift already installed. running a manual trans and until now oe style clutches. lengthened the big rod 3 inches and have had a new problem of tearing up clutches and throwout bearings very rapidly that the stock body height 86 never had so ive gone to a dual fricton centerforce. noticed today that it seems to push the fork down and then into the pressure plate. that Normal? I need some pictures of the mechanical linkage z bar angles of a stock and properly converted body lifted truck to compare and make sure mine is correct. and whats the exact length of the rod after being extended? mine seems to be about an inch short even after extending it 3 inches. its causing the z bar to sit higher than it did stock and I have less adjustment on the threaded rod going to the fork itself

I can get some pictures of mine tomarow when I get home from work. I had to fab some parts on mine...but it should get you close. Mine has no body lift on it.

As to what the rod should be lengthened to, that's probably trial and error to get it correct. I'm guessing that each truck is a little bit different. I had a body lift (3") my 87 K5 and had to lengthen the rod quite a bit (don't remember how much though). Later when I swapped that setup into my 86 K10 I had to shorten it...but not the entire length that I had added. This was stock height with new mounts FWIW.

The easy fix is to go to a hydro clutch. The angle you are putting that rod in makes it less effective to the point of not completely disengaging the clutch as things wear.

You beat Martin to it. He must be slippin...:haha:

finally got a set of hydro pedals and bell. they came from a 88 3500 with a 465. how whould i order the master slave and clutch line? parts store says carries different part numbers for a blazer vs a 1 ton. what does everybody use?

For my '91 K5, I ordered the hydraulics for an '87 V10 pick up. It all worked great.

FYI, I don't think there's any difference in parts from a 1/2 to a 1 ton as long as both are square body trucks. An '88 new body style 3500 would be different.

i got mine from a 88 old body style 73-87. it was a 88 c3500 with a 465. the bellhousing and pedals look like they fit fine. according to Advances computers most of the half ton and 3/4 ton rucks and blazers from 85 to 91 use the same part numbers but when I run the truck I got my hydro stuff from everythings different. id assume GM didn't change the bell or pedals but just changed the master slave and line to clear say hydroboost vs conventional setups. just wanna make sure im not gonna have any issues with slave throw or whatnot

If you're searching for '88 C3500 that's your problem, starting in '87 squares are "V" series (ie; "V3500"). An '88 "C" series truck is the newer body style with different hydraulics.
