When I turn the heater on I catch a faint whiff of anti-freeze coming through the vents. Its not leaking onto the passenger side floorboard or on the ground, the level in the radiator and jug have not dropped any. Could it be an internal leak in the heater core and not leak out? All HVAC controlls are working properly. I have never heard of this happening before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm baffled:dunno:

Yes, you might have a very little leak in the heater core. I had the same thing on my Burb I used to have.

Yep me too. My heater core went in the same fashion. I bought a new core and had the radiator shop take it apart and re-do everything and make sure the new core was mint. I didn't want to do it again. Cheap insurance as it seems everything is from off shore now

There is a drain in the suitcase that will allow coolant to leak outside the truck but when that drain hose becomes plugged is when it gets all over your floorboard. Time for a heater core unfortunately.

WAS gonna say heater core myself.

And since we're on the subject would anyone think the heatercore could be bad , and not leak or smell?? Think that may be the case on my '94 but not sure :dunno:

It would be clogged then and a clogged one puts out no heat and might not leak or smell, if thats the case, then its bad.

Mine never leaked into the cab on my burb and it was leaking pretty good(windows would fog and I noticed a puddle on the ground occasionally).

Why did you have to say that? Now I have to go replace my heater core, I have been noticing the odor for a little while, and losing a very small amount of antifreeze. I figured it was the core, but never see any puddles or any evidence on the floor, now I know what I have to do. I am not looking forward to doing this on mine with A/C.

I was actually suprised at how easy it was even with A/C when I did mine.

I did the heater core in my 89 with A/C in about an hour. There is one bolt that is a little tricky to get at and they claim the inner fenderwell must be removed to get to it but with 1/4" drive and long extensions and a swivel i got it out.

I dont know why eveyone thinks the heater core in these trucks is so much of a pain in the ass. I can do one in about 2 hours, and thats including taking out the inner fender.

I forgot to mention this is not my K5, That one is easy compared to my 92 S10 blazer.
I've already replaced the heater core once several years ago. It involves pulling the entire dash out.:(

How do you replace the heater core? I definately need to know.

I have done one in a 89 s10 and I agree with you that was about 10 times harder.

1. Remove inner fender bolts

2. set fender on tire

3. Remove 3 nuts holding box on firewall

4. remove glovebox

5. remove one bolt on far right side

6. remove linkages and mark there location

7. remove vent tubes and vaccuum lines

8. remove box

9. Take out screws and etc. to get heater core out of box

10. Reinstall in reverse order
