I will take your advice, since mine is far from rust free and I don't want to pull the inner fenders. I wouldn't mind pulling the fenders, since I have emblems that need to be attached.
Maybe the later model K5 are different. I have never removed the inner fender well on a Blazer to change the heater core. As 4x4high said one bolt is a little hard to get to. But it can be easily removed with a 1/4" drive extension and swivel. Not really a hard job. Takes a few hours if you have never done one before.

UPDATE: Definatly a leaking heater core on my S10. This morning as I took a left turn, a stream of antifreeze came out of the corner of airbox and onto the passenger floorboard.
