anyone have any idea how good the smittybilt winches are. my friends needing a winch and he's kinda leary on why it costs only $300 dollars for a 8000 lb winch. any info would be cool. thanks

I think they are just rebadged Mile Marker pieces of sh!t. Tell to go warn or ramsey, everything else is junk.

1.5x the weight of the vehicle. 8k minimum. 9k+ is better

I have the 8274 up front on mine and love it. It has not let me down.

Minimum of 8K. 9.5K is nice. Get a Warn

i've considered buying my friend's 8k lb warn before he sells his old jeep (he got a 2006 rubi), but it seems like if i was in enough trouble that i needed to winch out, 8000lbs might be too wimpy. i've only seen him use it once, but it worked well enough on the light jeep.

maybe your buddy should hold out for a bigger one. better deal than buying multiple cheapies that keep breaking. and this is coming from a cheap cheap guy. ha.
