ok, so i'm still trying to figure out why i'm getting super-smokey starts. the smoke is definitely fuel related and clears up real nice and runs GREAT when the engine is warm. I fire it up, and get on the fuel w/ it in gear and it'll clear up after a very short time of driving. However, my smoke cloud is HUGE.

- I know i've got one GP out, but i also know that this won't be a fix-all, because even when i've had 8 fully functioning GP's I still get the smokey starts.
- I have the gear reduction starter.
- I replaced my injectors this month. This helped, but wasn't a fix-all.
- My batteries are old and I think only at 60% capacity - but they were 2 batteries at 1000 CCA each, and always have had problems with smoke on start up. I know good batteries are key, but it seems they aren't completely the issue because of the fact that I had this problem even when the batteries were good.
- How do I know if the timing chain needs replaced ($20 per ebay) or if the pump needs replaced (minimum $200 ebay). both of these components have an unknown number of miles on them.

never had anyone work on my truck before...
Seriously though, you don't even want to know what a diesel timing light costs!

no kidding. btw stock is 13*.........
