So how much are square bodies worth?

There is so much wrong with that it's not even funny...it's getting to the point I'm surprised regular insurance companies are not denying coverage for these things. $100K item that technically your half blind grandpa could get it, and in 3 seconds total it and the company is out nearly the sales price.

I think it was 4wheel mag that had an article about it, it was pretty funny because they had the same opinion on it and weren't afraid to say it.

the diesel-douche market

That is funny. :rotfl:

I had one of those pull up beside me at a light with a brand new Dodge diesel 4X4 crew cab that had every bolt on aftermarket lift kit and gadget that the 4Wheel Parts garage installs. When he saw my old square body 4X4 crew cab, he rolled down his window, and yelled over to me that my crew cab was bitch'n, and wished he had an old school truck like mine too. He probably did not have the mechanical skills to put an old truck like mine back on the road.

Well I have decided mine is worth 15000,based on the fact that is what I will give it up for,it is not worth that in my opinion, but I like it,and if someone wanted it ,that's what it would take for me to let it goimage.jpeg

Yeah....prices are trending upward, but let's not get carried away. Trucks in the condition of those on Craigslist are probably still in the $5000 range...although the one with the snowplow might get more because it is a shortbed.
You all have seen my 74 Blazer...Hagerty is willing to insure it for $21,000...i have more than that in it...but I figure they run the numbers and odds. State Farm would only insure it for $3500 when I first checked

Oh...and I wouldn't sell mine for $40,000 even though it isn't worth that much. Maybe one day I will be willing to sell, but not till I get too old to get in it

Even though my truck may be worth $20,000 tops, I would rather get $20,000 worth of driving out of it than sell it for anything less.

On a very positive note, it appears that if our trucks are in good condition and we keep them that way, we can drive them AND the value will not go down.

Barrett Jackson, where a room full of people with more money than sense, compete against each other for the win aka spending too much on a vehicle. But they don't care, again, more money than sense. People watching at home and collector car dealers use these prices to price their own vehicles and ask way more than the vehicle should be worth.

Very similar to the housing market. Getting an idea on price compared to what is being sold near you. Except if there was Barrett Jackson house auctions, some guy in rural Kentucky would say "well my 3 bedroom 2 bath house is worth $1 mill cause I saw one sell in San Francisco California for the same price"

These car auctions are ruining the classic car & truck hobby for the regular folks like us. It wasn't so bad in the beginning. But now that it's televised and all over the internet, forget it.

Just attended Mecum in Kissimmee Fl, Jan 17, and mid level K5s non restored in fair condition went for 17k ish. They were no big deal.

17k is a big deal for me. For a 27 or more year old vehicle 17k is high, for what you just posted I'd hope to only spend 6-8k and that's only so high because I like K5's I'll make an exception. I remember when my Dad bought a nice 82 GMC LWB for 2,500 in 1999, the same truck now would easily bring 5,000 around here in the condition he bought it in but unfortunately it met a culvert with the RF frame horn.

It's for these reasons I bought Barney, I really believe that the square bodies as a whole are on the rise and while I'm not planning on resale I don't believe I'll be able to one for in Barney's shape for $3,300 in the next 5-10 years.

In some ways it makes sense to buy a cherry classic for 1/2 the price of something soul-less off the dealer lot and the prices of new trucks always seems to drive up the price of used ones. Here's an interesting picture that says the prices aren't really going up that much. Sorry it's based on Fords, though. It the math is good here, then some of these near-perfect squares are selling for around their new price - inflation adjusted.

What makes the inflation math hard to believe is how high schoolers in the 50's could pump gas for $0.75/hour and buy a new car. One end of the story doesn't hold up.

As for insurance, Hagerty wont' cover anything used off-road. All "regular" insurers don't cover any collision or comp for modified vehicles. Go read the fine print some day. They have lists of things like modified suspension, engine, drivetrain, etc. which all mean you're not covered, but that doesn't stop them from collection the premiums!

When I applied for coverage with Hagerty they were very adamant about not using the truck off-road in any way.

That's cause Hagerty people are too worried about getting their hula shirt, sandals, and goofy looking hats dirty. Screw em :sign10:

We couldn't...even in the 1970's...you bought a used car for a few hundred bucks and paid it off little by little.

Hagerty is a specialty insurance company. Also, what insurance company in their right mind would insure a rock crawler? Nobody insures race cars.

What the hell is wrong with people?? Has ripped drivers seat and rust holes and people are bidding 25k? Probably be close to 30k when auction ends. @CK5
