Went to yard looking for 56" springs and saw this. He wants $500.00 has tranny/T-case, 203 (looks like), no axles. What do you guys think?

Cool find, but on something like narrowing....i'd hate to buy someone else's pile of problems. Unless i knew the guy personally....and knew how his craftsmanship was......i would pass.

Yeah I think the same way. I looked at the welds and they are very clean. I measured the fender/door gaps on both side and they are equal,(Thought something could be said about the craftsmanship based on welding ability and uniformity). It looks as if it was done right for what its worth. Also there is no vin#. I have a 73 already. In fact Im doing a frame off resto. I was thinking I could put this body on my frame, and my body on that frame. I still have my 44 and 12 bolt I could put under it to put mine back to stock providing the new frame is still usable.

No VIN is a HUGE problem as it is highly illegal to remove or swap a VIN. :deal:

Did i mention it is a FEDERAL crime to mess with the VIN.

is that ulimately what happens when people get burned out on a project? doesnt look like its ever been wheeled.

How do people build there own stuff and get a green sticker then? Is that a different matter cuz its built from scrath?

If you build any kind of vehicle whether it be an offroad vehicle or a "kit car" or just a scratch built car those need to go have an inspection done and then are issued a VIN.

Yep before Boyd Cottington died he was shut down for grabbing vins from the junkyard and claiming his rods were built on those original cars frames.

Sorry to hear that, he wasn't that old, and contributed a lot to the industry.

Yep, he was only 63. I've met him several times over the years at various car shows i just wish i would have had the oppurtunity to have seen him "in action" at his shop.

As long as i gets inspected it should be good i know of a few trucks here that has been done to. Not to say you guys are wrong and i know there is a lot of paperwork and all. Just my opinion.

I think I would seriously look into what it would take to get it legal. If the fab looks quality why not? Call the DMV or who ever you need to. If its a bust then its a bust. No real loss just to check into it. It don't look bad at all.

Dmv says if they can find any identification on it then I will be liable for back DMV fees. If no Identification can be found then DMV says I just have to take it to the DOT inspector and it will get a new birthday since its modified in such a drastic way. Ill call CHP tomorrow and see if they agree:)

Really couldn't hurt to tell the wrecking yard guy you want it if there is NO id on it. If markings happen to dissapear before you pick it up, its not your fault.
