front bumper. Its not even really broken, just really loose. I hope it has nothing to do with the frame and the bolts are just loose or something. I also broke my sidemarker light on a tree. My first wheeling damage. I did have the truck off the ground a few times and upon a quick inspection i saw nothing broken or bent except for the loose/drooping front bumper. Stock 10 bolts are pretty strong :D Idle might be a bit messed up too. At one point me and my friend were going down this trail that we had to back out of, i had no room to manuver between trees so i just started running the small ones over, one decently big old cracked and fell hitting my friends truck, totally accidental, no damage really.

So i say booya to my 10bolts, and next time its nice out its time to fix the bumper and full inspection.

OH yeah! Does anyone have a problem with their trucks getting knocked out of 4hi when they're getting banged around alot? mine kept doing it tonight when i was really knocking her around. Anyone remedy this? Thanks

Edit: Also ripped my insulation on the inside of the hood, gotta rip it off, Do i need to get a new peice or is this useless?

I'll do my best not to sound like an arse, and should probably just pm you but...

It's best not to post stuff like "running the small ones over (trees)"
Alot of us fight hard to keep trails open that have been thrashed by people that abuse them... I'm not saying you're abusig anything, but please be nice to trees :)
A group us us just got done argueing with jeepers/yota's and the DNR (dept of natural resources) over a possibly trail closure cause irresponsible people were ruining it for everyone... and it just so happened to be a k5 that was seen doing it last...

Rip the pad out... it'll just got mud soaked eventually...
Get pics?

yea you can't use the word "airborne" in the thread title and not post pics!

wel, i was stuck so i had to get off the trail to turn around, and i have a video ill post when i get it from my friend.

Uh, no you didn't, you had a friend there and you have reverse right? Almost never is the option you take the "ONLY" option available:rolleyes:. You were wrong and no matter what excuses you post on here you will still be wrong. The damage has been done.

what a dik....just kidding man, yeah he's right...you could have gone backwards....let me tell ya something guys...maybe im just ranting...but down here there are hardly any trails/places to go wheeling b/c these people who don't care come and tear it all to hell, throw trash/beer cans down, RUN OVER TREES, leave parts/fluids all over trails,etc...and it really pisses me off. in the last 2years, 5 of my 6 local(within 100miles) wheeling spots have been closed b/c of this....the only one that's left is gonna get shut down b/c of the same crap. all so some highschool punks can go show off and be ghey and not responsible to clean up after themselves and be big boys. i geuss im just lettin off some steem. me and my buddies had this conversation last night.

IN fact...one time i was trail riding and saw some kids stuck like a mofo(i mean burried) in this mud pit...they had 3 trucks, all hooked together....well, as we pulled up...we saw 2 of them throw beer bottles into the higher grass off to the side....long story short, we left them and told the other guys whathappened and nobody helped them...they ended up having to call one of my buddies wreckers and he charged them 200bucks to get them out. PUNKS

thats awesome:D, i hate when people wheel drunk...i would have done the samething!

Sorry guys, for teh newb. I was trying for like half an hour but i dont know how i got myself in there. I banged up my body a bit trying to get out. The damage was falling a rotted dead tree and 2 baby ones to make the uturn. I was alot further ahead than my friend. Ill be more careful next time, its the only trails we have in the area, im not even sure of the legal status of it. Theres no signs and no nothing, off roaders go in there all the time. Still, i would not like to be compared to assholes throwing trash and beer bottles on the trail. Some parts of this trail have burned out car wrecks so its not the best area but its still big for us. Theres a giant sandpit too with ruts, bumps, puddles and all that good stuff. You get the trails and the sandpit. All i know is im done for awhile with the heavy duty ****, i abused her enough. And im not goin anywhere until i get this front bumper figured out.

also anyone have a problem with their rigs going out of 4 wheel when they;re bouncing around?

Adjust the linkage, if it is not set right the tcase will not be fully in 4wd and it can slip out. Mine did it in 4lo because the body was hitting the shifter and causing it to pop into neutral.

all the trails near me got closed down from this type of crap. now i gotta drive 5 hours up north to go wheelin. at 10mpg and $3.00 a galon you do the math. It really does piss me off.

My truck popped out all the time and I took apart the shift handle (took the fascia off) and there's a piece of metal with slots on it that the shifter moves in. I had to drill the holes that held that on bigger because it was hitting that and not fully engaging. Apparently lifting it caused that since the t-case moved.

Do not rip the pad out!

it is designed as a fire blanket, if you have a back fire/fuel leak or something that results in a fire under your hood it falls and smothers the o2 from the fire.

if you do have a fire shut the truck off and dont open the hood unless you are prepared to fight the fire with a 5lb or proper chemical fire extinguisher. If you open it you feed the fire air and it gets ugly quick.

I had the pleasure of learning this the hard way and watched my 86 become a car-b-que

yeah, im a firefighter so i see that kinda of **** pretty often. i dont even feel safe with the drychem, just dont feel like itll be enough. I didnt know that fuctioned in that capacity. It was torn, i kept all the things to hold it on so ill buy a new one from lmc. I got my bumped mostly off except for the mounts on the end of the bumper. Bolts are frozen. Nothing was loose though and so far nothing looks bent, yet my bumper was swinging around a bit on the big bumps and clanging, and it was kinda hanging off the truck a bit. I dont know, im gonna rip everything off then put the side mounts back on and see if the mounts are bent or were loose, then il throw the bumper back on and see what happens. If its still loose ill start ripping hair out.

edit: any ideas?

So i took the bumper off and i put it back on. I need 3 new bolts. I also took off this old u bolt that was hanging on my drivers side leave springs right by the front hanger. I have no idea why it was there? I also took my tcase shifter apart quickly to see what the deal was with it shifting out of 4 wheel so easily. I didnt fix it, im not sure how, the pic is as far as i got. Any suggestions? It feels like whatever holds it in 4 wheel is worn. Ill post pics. Also, do you think my bumper is striagt and should i have a space between the body and bumper?

that u-bolt is an exhaust clamp, it may have been on the leaf springs for a spring clamp but that is anyones guess

yes a small space can be there by the bumper, the lower valance "sp" should tuck up to it or under it.

personally, if you are pulling hair out or ready too, you need to calm down on beating on the truck till you get familure with everything..but breaking and needing repairs is one way to get to know it real quick!

as for the pop out, that could be the linkage or even a loose chain in the t-case that is showing some wear.

yeah, im gonna wait with my friend to mess with the linkage. I see it, just not sure how to get to it or adjust it yet. Hopefully its just that. i rushed putting it togther today and i didnt mess with it much because were getting snow tonight and tomm. I guess worse case sceniario is i learn how to swap a tcase haha. 'My friends gf has the vid on her camera so ill get it from here and post it for you guys asap

Drill or grind the holes bigger on that plate you took off, laying next to the shifter in the picture. Then put it back on and push it all the way up, and try it. That was my problem.

When you are under the truck adjusting the linkage, check your body mounts. Bad bushings can let the body move enough to affect the linkage adjustment. You should not have to grind anything, there should be plenty of adjustment on the linkage.

I had this problem with my truck except it would throw the tranny into neutral if I flexed it out or hit a bump real hard
