Yep!!

The throttle cable broke at the firewall about 3 miles from my house! :doah: So what do you do when you have a screaming 1 year old in the truck, no cell phone, and it's cold outside? I put it in 4Lo, locked in the hubs and cruised on home at an idle......:woot:

Here in Cascade where I live, it's not a flat drive home on Hwy24 and it's especially not flat once you turn off the hwy and start up into my neighborhood! From the Hwy to my house is a 800 foot elevation difference and I literally live 1/8 mile from the Hwy!!!

So.....I have a new throttle cable that will be here in the morning at 8am from Carquest. Now how do I get this thing out of the firewall? I can't even see where it comes through the firewall from the inside but I can feel it! I see perfectly well where it goes through from the engine bay. Does it twist into place? Does it just pop through?

Help...........

2 squeaze tabs with pair of pliers and shove threw fire wall.

and fyi shoe lace works for temp throttle cable. mabye 2 together even better.

had this happen time. but half come apart inside housing and vary sticky throttle. so wedged it to 1500 rpm and drove for 3 days like that till dealer only cable come in .

I knew that someone would have the answers for me right away!! Thank you....

I was so frustrated that I was sitting there wondering what I would have done if I was at 11,000 feet of elevation with a couple of hunters and a downed animal 5 miles back into the woods from the nearest road!

I'm thinking there's a reason I keep 200ft of paracord in this truck! Now I just need to remember all of the different uses for it.......:doah:

Wait until you run out of gas 100 yards from a service station up a slight hill......

Did that about 1970 in my old CJ5. Dropped it into 4Lo, and cranked up the hill and into the service station.....

when mine let go i was driving through the city and rigged up an old cell charger i had and left the hood just latched and used the vent window to pull on the cord :haha: the looks i got pulling a cord for throttle while passing other vehicles was priceless.

Works with a manual trans but does nothing for us Auto guys. :doah:

Im lovin that:D

I'm lovin that too.........I did that in my old '64 Falcon to get it off a 4 lane Highway when I was in the left lane!! That was 1994 when I was 18 and was scared as hell.....

I did figure if nothing else I was getting ready to rig the throttle to give myself some rpm and go that route as well....but shifting into 4Lo and idling it home just seemed cooler to me!

What is that, about 2MPH? If there was any traffic I can imagine you were quite the popular guy!

I lost the fuel pump resistor in my GTP once and could only keep it running at full throttle! Fuel pump would prime and run "high speed", but not "low speed". So I passed people on the freeway at like 90MPH, let it stall, coasted down to 40 or so, restarted the engine, repeat... I saw quite a few middle fingers that day...

Of course, knowing what I know now, I could have fixed it with a simple jumper wire in the fuse box.

I had the throttle cable in my fisrt car,a 1963 VW Beetle, bust on my way home from Fall River MA,about a 15 mile trip from my house....soon as I got on the highway my foot went to the floor ,and I was S-O-L..!...a frantic search under the hood revealed a peice of wire I had coiled up,left over from a speaker wiring job,and I tied it to the carbs throttle lever, ran it thru the louvers under the rear window, and tied it to my rear view mirror on the drivers side--had to drive home using my hand tugging on the wire the whole trip, and it was about 30 degrees out!--felt like my hand and arm were frostbitten BAD by the time I got home, they were all numb and I had to take a hot shower to get the chill out of my bones...

I had one snap one day in my K5 on the way to work, luckily I was only a few miles away--I shoved a book of matches under the carb's throttle lever and drove it with the engine racing at 3000 rpms till I got to work...next to the parts store I worked at was a small family owned boneyard, and I got lucky--they had 3 67-72 Chevy pickups there with the same throttle cables--I bought two of them for 5 bucks,so I'd have one to install, and a spare...I got paranoid after having two break,so now I try to keep a spare in my trucks if possible!--cant seem to find a used DIESEL one anywhere though!.:doah:..

yeah, I definately wasn't the most popular guy on the road!! Getting passed by little old ladies on the hwy is one thing.....but having one give you the finger is another!

I picked up the Throttle Cable right at 8am when Carquest opened, total cost of $30.40, and got it home with my '88 Grand Wagoneer project. It did nothing but piss me off trying to get the old one out of the firewall!

So a little :grind:and I just cut the crap out of the old one in 2 minutes and had it removed :D

Then as I'm installing the new one it isn't fitting right into the bracket on the intake so some twisting there and it finally popped in. Then since I'm running the 1" TBI Spacer the doggone dust cover for the cable was catching and wouldn't let the throttle go down so I got out the brake/fuel line cutting tool and did some trimming on that..... And finally it was done!! :waytogo:

Why don't aftermarket pieces fit like they're supposed to?:dunno:
