So I weighed my truck...

that much and no d60. what's the weight difference between a 10 bolt and d60?
Yeah...its probably about a 150 lb difference. My 10 bolt is heavier however because it has the larger 3/4 ton hubs and rotors, plus a locker.... My truck also has tbi which adds a cpu, various sensors, and a ton of wiring. Im sure that adds something. Mine is a heavy sob because its a silverado so it has power windows and power rear window. That rear tailgate must weigh close to 150 by itself....

aluminum rims, rear disk swap, performance calipers front and rear

Good excuse for a set of aluminum heads :D
I couldnt agree more on the aluminum heads. That is what I want more than anything right now (except for a dana 60). However, my wallet seems to disagree.:doah: :haha:

I see a rear disc swap in the future. Im very low on cash (im in college so im obviously poor) so im gonna have to stick to some free mods for now to get the weight down even more (i.e. cutting stuff off). I dont want to run with the doors off because I have the top off, and with me behind the wheel, there is a chance of a roll. I dont want to be in the truck with no top and no doors when it rolls. They add a lot of structual integrity. However, I do have a cage that needs to be welded in...and when it goes in...the doors go off.:D Aluminum rims would save a ton of weight over these beastly monster steelies, but its not in the budget, and I love the durability that steel wheels offer.

Great suggestions guys. I will keep all of them in mind when im removing weight.:D

Been there and done that on trying to build a wheeler in college...... leave it heavy and add another hundred pounds in the form of a winch if you don't have one:D

I agree with what you said about steel wheels. I hate aluminum rims for a trail truck I was just thinking of where big chunks of weight are sitting. Safety is a good reason to keep the doors. If I were looking to shed weight on a truck sheetmetal trimming would be way down on my list of things to do. Just don't think it would save that much weight unless you skinned all your panels and ran a fiberglass hood. I have accepted that wheeling a big heavy beast is part of wheeling a fullsize truck

Couldnt agree more.

I know that trimming the sheetmetal will only give maybe a total of 5 or so pounds..but I need to. I dont like the way its trimmed now. I want to cut the rear even with what I call the "crease" in the rear quarter. Cut it from the wheel well all the way back straight. I am also thinking of doing the front somewhat like that. I think it looks badass and will at least be 5 lbs removed from almost 3 tons.:haha: :D
I also hate my bumpers and am leaning toward just cutting them since I cant afford nice tube bumpers.
