Same here. I actually had to read through several non-Detroit ads to find it. It's also an 83+ ad (based on the headlights), the original 1982ish ads did not mention Detroit. Perhaps the whole confusion was a single slip up in the marketing department that one time.
Or it is a photoshop.

I'm not disagreeing with Martin, I was just trying to point out how I think this idea got started.
My personal opinion is that this debate is completely irrelevant. IIRC, Detroit was a GM brand at that time. If GM decides to use a brand name that it owns on the 6.2 engine, why do we care? It may not fit with any of the other (real?) Detroit engines, but there's not much that Detroit can do about it.

Martin, I'm trying to agree with you, but this makes it sound like you're defending a conspiracy theory without much proof. Aside from your inner convictions, do you have any reason to think this ad is fake? The engine definitely looks like an N/A 6.2 (it's not a 6.5, nor any gasoline engine). Is there some other ad using this picture that could have been photoshopped?
so now, if my 98 has a goodwrench crate 6.5 dropped in in the early 2000s, what block does that have?

Not at all. Your local Detroit Diesel Distributor can get you parts for an 8.2 Fuel Pincher.
Your local GM dealer has parts books for the 6.2 even if the parts are not stocked.
A 6.2 does not exist in the parts system at Detroit. They won't tell you it is an obsolete part. They will tell you they don't have parts for someone else's engine.

You should see how often Craig Artzner's photoshopped GM brochures show up on Facebook and people think they are real.
I am not saying the ad is not real. I am saying someone may have changed the script.

For a long time I thought the automatic vs manual was the most pointless debate ever. Even seen a couple GMC vs Chevy debates over the years.

So you don't love Marty? I know he started everyone of those. Of course the arguments only correct snswers are: Manuals are best so are GMCs. Carbs make more power but only lobotomy candidates remove factory tbi. Big blocks are nearly always better than any other engine (except 427t and 366t). LS engines were designed by Ford. 2wds are only good for 4wd body donors. K20s and K20s are only good for K30 body donors. AC should never be removed and should be added to those without it. Stepsides are beautiful. 79 and 90-91 are the only good looking front ends. 205s are strong with a horrible ratios. Black wheels and wheels over 16.5 are horribly ugly and indicate the owner is a receptive "catcher".
