So on our trip, really bad milage dmax

Really the biggest issue is this is like taking a brand new[ used ( to me)] truck. Driving it for 10 minutes and leaving on a road trip. My in laws never actually calculated milage before. I got nothing to compare it too. Every mantainence question I ask they have no clue. Like literally every question.
So you borrowed a truck from the in-laws, it broke and they'll never loan you anything again? Or they sold you a pile that you get to rebuild and they claim complete ignorance?

No. My in laws bought the truck and a fifth wheel. My FIL is a workaholic who will never take more than 4 days off.

So my mil intended on using it. She is severely overweight and simply cannot drive it for long distances. She also has no clue how anything on the truck or fifth wheel works .

So she has her kids go with her.

So this is my in laws truck but since can't leave well enough alone I tend to want to fix things I am using.

I'm doing the injectors and head gaskets to prevent one of my brother in law's trying to fix it.

So not my truck. But I'm fixing it and during our trip I tried to treat it like it was mine

If your doing head gaskets go ahead and do studs as well, the bolts are a torque to yeild bolt so you can't reuse them. Studs are $300 to $400 more than the bolts but well worth it. Merchant automotive is a great source for the head gasket kit, he's not the cheapest out there but has a very complete kit with all the right OEM GM parts included.

Industrial injection may be your best bet for injectors, at least in the LLY world they have an inhouse rebuilt injector that is less expensive than the "bosch" factory remans. Industrial is a big name in the diesel world so I think they are a good option. Otherwise I've read good things about Lincoln Diesel as well.
