So i have a 1975 k5 blazer 4x4....And the 4 wheel drive gave out on me for some reason.....It worked fine 2 days ago i took it mudding and to the creek and when i left from mudding it was working grea! so today i go to the creek and as soon as i get there it was stuck never even worked while at the creek....

The front drive shaft is spinning but the wheels wont...

must have broke a hub or shaft or something. Does it have locking hubs? Maybe one of them wont engage?

But for sure, the front drive shaft was spinning? Just not the tires right? I bet you have a hub thats sticky now after the last time you played in the water with it.

Yea and while it was in drive i went to pull the 4x4 lever and it grinded which means the t case is working...And i put it in 4 wheel drive locked the hubs and pressed the gas while looking under and the rear tires spun and the front drive shaft spun but the front tires didnt.....

My friend said he thinks the hub or axle shaft is messed up....So if it is a hub how should i fix it?

Depending on what hubs you have, there should be 6 allen head bolts that hold the hub in place. Pull it off and see how it looks. If we need to dig deeper there will be a couple snap rings that need removed as well.

Ok tomarrow i will take the hubs off and take pictures and post them on here.

As for the brand the hubs are WARN hubs?

Probably a little mud in the hub making it sticky. Shouldn't take more than a bit of Brake Kleen or WD40 to "wash" the crud off, then a light coat of grease on re-assembly. No need to panic, this is how you learn more about your truck.

Ok sweet i have bad things happen to me and i am scared that i have owned this blazer for less than a week and it was already broke....1st my battery fell over and the positive grounded out and smoke poured out from under my hood....Then i get stuck and the 4x4 dont work...And i hear my dad say I told you this thing was junk.

But its all good i am feeling better now that i know it is not a major problem.....

On a side note i am trying to get this guy to help me build up my 1980 chevy luv 4x4....

If you are going to run it in mud and water, then cleaning and repacking the hubs and front wheel bearings are going to be a regular thing.

Couple of things to remember. If one side is gummy and not working, the other side needs cleaning too.
Unless you know the previous owner never took it off road, or was a stickler for maintenance, odds are you are going to have to do a front bearing repack pretty soon.
If you pull the outer part of the hub off and see water and rust, most likely that bearing repack is going to be soon.
You need to put the hub back on and move it to a spot where it can sit and be worked on for a couple of days.

You can pull, clean, and repack both sets of hubs and wheel bearings in an afternoon, no problem, BUT not the first time.

The first time its going to take you a while. After that, it gets faster.

As for doing it, don't worry. Not only is it simple, but you have guys here who can take you step by step with pictures if necessary.

Make sure you have some kind of cheap digital camera and a way to get the pictures into you computer.

That way, when you are sitting there staring in horror at something you don't remember taking off, you can post a pic, and we will tell you what it is, and how to put it back on.

Oh, I forgot, you have to be a member to post and view pictures. But if you are going to keep it, the membership cost is going to be the cheapest, most important thing you can buy to keep it running.

If you are thinking you are getting in over your head, just browse some of the threads here and see what some of these guys are doing.
Swapping entire axles, rebuilding transmissions, actually adding a second transfer case behind the original to get lower gears.

And at one time, all these guys did not know any more than you do now.........
Except maybe 4X4HIGH.......We have heard stories about his birth.......

Yea i have had alot of help here already...AND i plan to keep this blazer....I opened the glove box and found all kinds of codes....so i was thinking of a little restore..But these are thoughts i have already made a build thread with pics.

Hey, I was green at all this too once but that was a little more than 30 years ago. :D

Pick u pull in san antonio had 700r4 and 241 for a mechanical speedo this past weekend so if you plan to do it that would be the setup to get. It was in a 1989 1/2 ton suburban that had been used an a ranch from what i could tell and well cared for.
