Get off your high horse you self-righteous twit. You aren't impressing me with your pseudo sophistication.
Bye Bye, no personall attacking will be torerated anymore.

You opinion was clearly off the wall. I never asked anyone what they thought my K5 was worth, which is the only thing you have addressed. That does me no good and I'm sorry, but your posts have just slowed down the pase of my thread with an opinion that has no bearing on the topic at hand.

was wondering how long that was gonna take Bobby. oh, and learn some spelling! :D

i understand completely about not wanting to do a frame off. i have one that i have to do, and i dont want another. my next toy will probably be an 88+ SCSB 2wd.

What purpose did your thread have other than to ask for others opinions? Do you expect people to only respond to your exact question or comment? The very nature of a bulletin board is for people to voice their opinions. What I get from you is that if someone voices an opinion that doesn't jive with your perfect world, you get butt hurt. It's called reality Bobby. Live in it. :D

Joe, check your pm's.

Well, after an overwhelming amount of responses to keep the truck that is what I'll be doing. I am going to try my first plan here within a couple of weeks and if that doesn't work I'll K5monsterchev's plan.

Thanks for the opinions guys. :)

There is no way that 10K could build a better truck. Between my stereo, tires/wheels, and motor there is 10K there. Plus Jake, finding an original 400 2 bolt block like mine is getting very hard. I had good help finding mine, i got to know the owner of a performance shop that specialized in engines and gave me a call when he got my current 400 in. It was an original bore 400 long block that was tired. He almost didn't let me take it when bought it from him because he hadn't seen one in a couple of years. Like me, he has a soft spot for 400's. :o

Are 400's that rare? Ive got one sitting in the shop that i took out of a blazer i bought cause it needed rebuilt and i had a good 350 sitting around. I didnt even figure itd be worth finding out whats wrong with the 400.

No, they are not. They are sitting in garages and shops the world over because nobody else wants to mess with them either. :p: ;) :D

Bye bye? Off the wall?

Are threats and insults any better than a "personal attack"? Hello pot this is kettle...

For the record, I was smashed out of my gord on margaritas when I typed the last reply. My self control was out to lunch.

Anyways, to the two mods that PM'd me, it won't happen again. My self control/temper gets the better of me sometimes.

They sure as heck are! I completely disagree with the guy above about them not being rare. Some people don't like them because of the siemese cylinders.....thanks, there are already too many people after original bore 400's. :D

Is your 400 a 4 bolt or 2 bolt? Suprisingly enough, 2 bolts are more valuable because the main caps can be upgraded where the 4 bolt versions had problems with the webbing cracking. They aren't as reliable as a 350 but a 2 bolt 400 is pretty darned sweet, I love mine and can whoop on 350's mildly built like mine. I can even outpull our '76 C30 with a fresh stock 454 with better gearing, with a trailer behind both.

Granted, my 406 likes to run warm and will run even warmer under extended, heavy throttle but I wouldn't trade it for another boring 350 anytime. :D

i think its a 2 bolt but ill look tomorrow night when im working on my blazer. I figured the 2 bolt would be a bad thing. Reason i thought the motor wouldnt be worth messing with is cause my dad always told me the cylinder walls were to thin.

Most people think that and so did I when I found out my block was a 2 bolt. For any other Chevy motor that I know of the 4 bolt is better, except the 400. Your dad is right about the walls being too thin, when it's overbored too far. That can cause cracking and overheating issues. The max you can safely bore a 400 is .030 over, which would be a 406. Guys go bigger in racing but that doesn't count. That is why they are valuable....there wasn't a lot of 400's in the first place and to top it off they can basically only be rebuilt once because of the thin walls.

Don't like First Gens  Why I aughtaaaa.......POW To the Moon Alice..hehehee
Look how AWSOME they look:

Id say that this block has been bored out. When i got it it had a cracked head on it and i just droped in a 350. Then that blazer went up in flames and the 350 is now a 383 in my trans am. I was probably just gona haul the block to the metal recyclers  but now think i might check into it and at least see if its been bored out.

400 2 bolts came in A LOT of chevy's. They are not that rare. What is rare is a good running 400 that doesn't over heat or have cracked cylinder walls. I had to make a lot of modifications to mine including running a 4 core big block rad to finally cool mine down under heavy throttle. I had issues towing, hill climbing, idling in traffic on a 90* day.....dang man, during the summer, I couldn't run a t-stat at all. Unless they are modified and cooled properly, they are an overheating, panting, dog.

But, that said. Some people love them and would trade them for anything. To each their own I say. If you like it, stick with it.

Yep, I've got a 4 core and dual electric fans that still isn't quite enough with the A/C on in hot weather and lots of throttle. They may not be rare where you are at but they are definantly here in California.

Burt,

I like first gens...but not as much as the 81-91 trucks. :D I don't like round headlights very much.

I FIX! :D anything over that requires a sonic check, and many can safely be taken to .060 without issue.

Why do all that when you could just put a 454 or somethuing like that in alot easyer?, :)

I suppose because a 454 would have to be made entirely out of aluminum to weigh as little as a small block does!

Priced an aluminum big block lately???? :D I'll give you a hint, the engine would cost more than RJFs whole truck...

.....but VERY cool. :usaflag:
