Exactly. The last year for 6-lug axles in the 2WD GM trucks was 1970. I've never seen one, but I'm fairly certain that 1969-1970 2WD Blazers had 6-lug axles. But the pic I posted up at the top of this thread is a '76 and definitely 4WD.Never seen a 2WD K5 with 6 lug wheels...

I thought a 2wd Blazer was not even available in '69 or '70? Speaking of 2wd Blazers, and wheels, why would a 2wd Blazer get 16 inch steel wheels rather than a steel 15 or a 15 inch ralley? My old '79 had them originally. It was listed in the glove box (16x6 IIRC) and I even still have the wheels, just not the Blazer.
ALSO 16.5 wheels and tires where the first "big & fat" tires and wheels. I couldnt tell you the year but when they came out they was the only wide tires available at the time. 15 and 16s where all skinny. hey had a higher weight rating as well. I dont know if they was designed with off roaders in mind or wieght but you wont find many 16.5 wheels skinnier than 9.75 whereas the 15's and 16's of the era commonly was only 5,6 or 7 inches wide.
Huh??? I have a bunch of 16.5x6" and 16.5x6.75" OEM wheels.

That brings back memories, that truck had a roll bar thing that bolted to the top of the bed rails, and dual tube bumpers. It also had stacked blocks on the FRONT! one was like 2" and had some sort of traction bar thing that attached to the spring shackle. Then a 4" or so block under that. Glad I never drove that truck HAHA!
I have to revive this very old thread, because there was a vote that yielded a very incorrect outcome.
The original question was: "What was the first year that the 15x8, 6 lug, square slot rally wheel was available on 4x4 trucks?" and the correct answer is 1976.
All of you who say you "know a guy" who had "factory" rally's on a 67-75 4x4 truck or Blazer... sorry, but no you don't. You actually know a guy who swapped his truck to these wheels sometime after 1976. I know this because I was actually THERE in the 1970's, and our family worked in the car business and traded a 1973 Blazer for a brand new 76 Blazer CST. I remember the lines of Chevy trucks and Blazers sitting on the lot at Courtesy Chevrolet in Phoenix every fall when the new models came out, and up until 1976, all you ever saw on the 4x4 trucks and Blazers where black 15x6 super-skinnys wearing full-wheel UFO hub caps, or you saw the wider, 16 inch white steelies with snap on dog dishes. those square slotted rally wheels with trim rings were only available on 2wd, 5-lug applications (light 1/2 ton trucks and vans) prior to 1976.
In 76, the first 15x8, 6 lug style rally wheel first came out on the 4x4 Blazer, but only with the CST package.
So, every "correct" 67-72 GM 4x4 truck/Blazer restoration out there that is running these wheels is actually wrong (I challenge ANYONE to provide photographic evidence of a square slot 6-lug rally wheel with a stamp code on it that can be traced to ANY parts catalog prior to 1976). They do look good on the older trucks, I agree with that; but they aren't accurate from a "factory" standpoint.
The reason so many guys use them on pre-76 4x4 truck and Blazer restorations today is because junk yards are full of them, since they came on every single Blazer sold from 1980 to 1992 (they are much less rare than the "correct" 6-lug steelies (wearing either UFO's or dog-dishes) that guys should be using on 67-75 4x4 restorations.
I guess it's easier to make up stories about how that 72 Blazer with "factory Rally's" is correct, because it is actually a time machine that jumped forward 4 years while it was being assembled...
So now you all know the facts. I'm sure the "double down" crowd is going to come in posting their typical "my uncle's friend's dad SWEARS his 71 Blazer had rallys on it from the factory" ... whatever. Blame the Mandela effect, I guess. But history was what it was, and facts are what they are.
1976 is the year of fact for 15x8 square slotted 6-lug rally wheels with trim rings.
Not sure if this site appreciates cross linking to other sites, but a little research about these wheel on the other forum (67-72 chevytrucks dotcom) will provide accurate info about which wheels are correct for 67-72 4x4 GM trucks
I think you're right about that.So are "rally wheels" the same, all throughout the years? I looked at various of the GM sales brochures for 74 and 75 and didnt see an example of the steel rally's I'm familiar with (argent paint, trim rings, bolt on center caps) on any of the pictures in the brochures. I didnt run across a brochure those years that explained all the wheel options.
Granted, I didnt look at all of them, but for the Blazer, Suburbans, and pickups, I didnt see any of the rallys I assume we are talking about.
You came in awfully hot for being wrong. The 15”x7” and 15”x8” rally wheel were both available for the Blazer in 1975, 2wd and 4x4.
