Just figured I'd get your thoughts on what I should do.
I sold one of my old vans last Nov. to a guy for $500.
I thought it was all good but even though I've been paid, he never came
back to pick up the truck. It's been sitting at my old place for the entire
winter and the new owner wants it out of there. I left the guy a measage
telling him, he has this weekend to get it out of there or we will have it
towed away. I hate to see a decent truck go to the scrape but I've been
paid and don't have the room for it.
What should I do??????? :dunno:

do you still have the title?

Wonder if he kicked the bucket.... :wink1:

That sucks..

Legally, I would guess its not your responsibility and could push it to the street and let the town impound it..

but obviously you're trying be decent.... Any chance he's local and you could track down an addy? Not that you should have to do it, but maybe a bang on his trailer door would get him in gear.... :haha:

I just hate to see the truck go to waste. It's a one ton 4x4 w/460
and it runs great. If I still had the title and time, I'd turn it into some kind
of 10 passenger Moab buggy :D . It just needs a tranny.
I think I can have the cops tow it but I'm not sure.

Wow, yeah, shame to see that go to waste...

I guess at some point you'll just have to leave him a message explaining "you made every effort to contact him and are forcing to have it towed" with no guilt...

Or haul it around with you and charge him another $500 storage if he ever crawls out from the fridge box to pick it up.... :doah:

The buyer could be in jail, but he also could be in the hospital really busted up. Difficult situation when you just don't know which.

do you konw if he transfered the title to his name? Did you send in the release of liability? If not it might still be in yours and the tow bill could come back to you.

its hard to do here...

In MA,we have to notify an owner of a vehicle abandoned at a service shop, etc,by a registered letter, with a return recepit reqested..once the owner is notified (you'll get the recepit from the post office),IF they ever accept the letter and sign it that is,they have 30 days to remove the vehicle..after that,if they fail to show, you can file a mechanics lein on it,and scrap it,keep it,or whatever..

I'd try having the cops look up the new owner..as stated,he might be in jail, hospitalized,or dead,etc...I'm not so sure this is YOUR problem, now that he bought it,and holds the title though..I'd say its between him,and the new owners of your old property...if they scrap it,they could get in trouble, despite it being left on their property..

We had a similar dilema when my friends shop was sold ,and several vehicles were abandoned there for months after customers found out how much the repairs would cost, despite them being told to remove them..the new owner of the shop simply pushed them out into the street with his truck and left them about a 1/4 mile away.. ..they were gone the next day!

Charge him a daily storage fee and when it matches the selling point, petition to get the title back. $50 dollars a day seems reasonable.

Thanks guys. Those are some good points and ideas.
Considering he never showed up to get it and I had talked to him several
times after the sale, I figure he never got off his butt and tranfered the title.
That means it's still in my name. I left him a measage saying we would tow it
away on Monday if he didn't show up and get it but no call back.
If he doesn't get it this weekend, I'll call the cops and see if they can run
the vin number to check the title. I'll ask them what I can do.
I know it shouldn't be my problem but I told the new owner the guy was
going to come pick it up and he's been nice enough to let it sit there all
winter so.
Any other ideas?

DMV will tell you everything you need to know ! if he didnt transfer the title and you want it transferd you have to file a fource of transfer ,wich will take all liability off of you ( cost about 75.00 ) or just file for a lost title and keep it . if he did transfer the title call the smokey and have them come get it , they will come and get for there D.A.R.E. auctions.

Here in CA, half of the title is a "release of liability", which YOU fill out at time of sale ... buyer gets the "pink slip" (which is now green, but I digress :) ) and the SELLER sends into the DMV this release form, which says "As of this day I have nothing to do with the damn thing even if the buyer never tells you about it" ... it's cover-your-assage for this very situation.

If you don't have those, I donno ...

So, is that front axle a High Pinion 44? It would be a shame to let that go to the scrap yard.

I don't think so. I posted pics of the axles on here before but no one
wanted it. It has a very strong 460, a cracked C6, a 205 and I know it has a 44 up front and I belive a 70 rear.
Here's the pictures http://community.webshots.com/album/481009711duvMIn
I would have loved to do something with it
if only I had the time. Maybe a Pinto Body and some 44"s? :haha:
The other one is gonna go up for sale soon too.
The won't fit on my boat and I can only drive one at a time :cool1: .

Yep, I thought about that also.
Still no word from him.
SICNICK, if something changes, I'll let you know but he paid me
so I can't do much about it yet. I had another guy that wanted
it but I told him the other guy was 1st. Now I wish I had sold it
to him! I'll find out tomorrow I hope.
