So who else is anti narrowed body???

I would do it to my DD for sure. I just finished my current tube work less than a year ago (bumpers/armor/cage) and want to use it a little. Maybe by next summer I will be a DDT (daily driven truggy). I will have to research the front fender laws though.

with your custom stuff it looks like a lot of work to repair a panel

Front fenders still bolt on. Exterior on the rear is the same. Factory stuff easily goes back on.

I've never seen a narrowed body, anyone got a good pic?

same here.. my fenders still bolt on and off, actually it's a whole lot easier since i don't have to deal with the inner fender wells. as far as the rest of the body still getting damaged that will be dealt with on the next go around... /forums/images/graemlins/hack.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grind.gif /forums/images/graemlins/weld.gif

I just unbolted mine before I killed them and set them beside my house. I've still got a full set of flawless sheet metal except for the cab, which was pretty much junk anyway... I even bought a junkyard hood with damage on the corner to make my current cut hood so I wouldn't have to cut up my good hood...

I love that pic, made me take a double take the first time I saw it trying to figure out why the lights were so close together. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Nothing on mine is simply bolt on anymore. /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif what the hell. It's mine I built it the way I want it and that would be that. I'm not big on chrome but if you like it go for it. I'm all for building your rig the way you want it and if you do that to the best of your abilities then its all good. That is what propels this hobby/sport forward. Pushing the envelope in any direction spawns new ideas which at first are not accepted and eventually gain popularity and become common place. Some things some people will never like and that is OK too.

I know it isn't just Me who is not a fan of the narrowed body look. I just dig the whole fullsize ideal /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
So let the bashing begin /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

You being from Military background - I would figure you would not subject your thoughts to Taliban type of thinking. Meaning, to each his own... Or would you rather wear a veil and smell stinky all the time? /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

I am going to "update" my K5 by using a 95 S-10 Extended Cab. As the originator of the Midwest K5 Thing series of runs - I have people asking "How are you going to host an event not having a K5". Just the same as I always did!

The body on my K5 was so tweaked - it was cracking apart at the seams. The brand new radiator support was cracked into 3 pieces. It was always cool looking at photos, seeing my headlights slanting downward while my hood stayed straight and so on. My fan shroud was non existant. Bedsides were caved in and breaking loose from the door jamb. I still like K5s and enjoy seeing them in all shapes and forms. But, as Watson and many others have experienced - where we "want to go" has just grown to be more and more difficult and sometimes you have to trim the fat. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I bought the K5 because of the body size... If I wanted something narrow I would have got a Jeep...

Miner trimming on a DD is just an excuse for not adding an extra inch or two of lift. IMHO

Yes, I am the leader of the "can't clear your tires? Than just lift it more!" crowd.

What you fail to realize is that without limiting suspension travel this is absolutely impossible. Your truck has dump truck springs in the front and stock shocks, shackles, and mounts so your tires will probabably never make it anywhere near the fenders. Those of us with longer shackles, softer springs, ford towers, etc., would find big tires hitting the fenders no matter how tall our trucks were--because a 38" tire just doesn't fit into a 35" space. That's where trimming started all along.

As to the pic above of bowtie's blazer, isn't a trail rig supposed to look like that? My truck has rash on both sides just like that. I don't really care...that's why I have it. It's suppose to be rough. So the idea of narrowing the body is to that the panels can be straight (not smashed)? In that case I guess it makes perfect sense. If I had panels that weren't smashed I might consider saving them by attempting to narrow my body.

Either way until then I'll just continue to bash mine and try to save it somewhat like a truck for as long as possible. It's a blast to bash it though so I'll just keep bashing it up. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

you can go exo cage or just build the buggy that you need

I guess it comes down to personal preference on how the narrowing job is done. One boulder at a time or all at once with the sawzall and what not. My panels were straight so I would consider it preventative maintenance!
